Got you. Surprised, I don't hear Porsche going 8 to 10% Usually around 5% Maybe the competition is getting to them.

Porsche operates with a full MSRP here in Canada ... at least in the greater TORONTO area. Incremental cost:to benefit ratio makes no sense.

I have the M50i and love it, used to like Porsche but it's too many buttons I feel like the design is not clean. Now my sister loves it because it has buttons. If you want technology and speed M50i. If you want to say you have porsche well get the Porsche. My M50i will do 0-60 mph in 4.1 with winter tires. I drive on the autobahn usually at 170 and 200 km/h and I still get 20mpg.
I drove at 130km/h and got about 25. This is a twin turbo V8. I got every option except tv screens and night vision |

We ended up getting the Panamera E-Hybrid. It's wife's dream car and does drive very nicely given its size. But for SUV we are going to stick with BMW

To answer your question, what does Porsche have that BMW doesn't, only the 911. Everything else in the Porsche lineup is riding on the coat tails of that car. I have yet to be impressed with any car in the modern Porsche lineup besides the 911(I think Porsche knows this too, which might be why there are 100 different models in the 911 lineup)
BMW has a more well rounded overall portfolio of cars. Even Audi is doing a better job than Porsche, with their overall lineup of cars.

I will say as a family that has had multiple x5 5.0’s (with dynamic handling) and just got a Cayenne turbo, there is something more fun about driving the cayenne. The suspension is much firmer in sport mode, the steering is so direct and it just has so much grip. The x5 is close but there is that extra bit with the cayenne that makes it a more engaging “sports” car. I love both. But I do get more excited when we drive the cayenne. (Seats are way better as well).
A word on build quality, while they are very close Porsche definitely is a clear winner in quality materials, a very well built and solid car. Absolutely love both brands though. EDIT: I also live in the mountains and drive lot of curvy roads so handling is very important to me. |

Because of the regulations and taxes in my country (Finland), I was looking at PHEVs and EVs mainly Audi e-tron. Porsche E-hybrid would be a competitor but the 14kWh battery (vs 24kWh in the X5) and also the price left it behind BMW (you have to really add everything as options). The X5s electric range of about 80kms is enough for my wifes daily use, and then you have that V6 petrol engine ready for longer trips and occasional fun.

BMW doesn't use V6's only Inline-6's.

The Porsche servicing costs in the uk are huge. I believe a cambelt change every 40k miles. That must set you back about £5k if you have a service as well. Bmw costs are reasonable for the type of vehicle. I do about 25k miles a year so the difference mounts up. My friend just sold his Maserati granturismo after 4 years and it almost cost in servicing the same as he paid for the car. Largest bill was £14k. I think the Porsche would be similar. Perhaps Cayenne owners could give an insight.

My only experience with a Porsche was a 2013 Cayenne GTS, and it handled like a peach. Other than that, it had nothing over my back-then E71 X6 50i.
I will give them this though: they make the craziest 6 cylinder engines on that 911, but that's about it. BMW wins in tech, comfort, driving feel and overall power (excluding the 911). I'd take a BMW over a Porsche any day, but will also take Porsche over an Audi or a Merc.

I drove both extensively and here are my thoughts: 1) The interior quality and leather in Porsche is better than that of BMW's IMHO. 2) With the X5, when I floored it (yes in Sports +) there was like a 2 second lag until the turbos kicked in and you felt that car really going quick, with the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, the acceleration is instant, 0 turbo lag, it's viceral, scary, but controlled, and it handles much better. Call me crazy but I feel it handles better than my E93 M3. It is insanse to have so much power and great handling from an SUV.
