Just got rid of last chrome

Just got rid of last chrome on back of car (badges and exhaust tips). Now have all black grill, wheels and badges. Used plasti dip for the badges and exhaust tips. Love the way it turned out

I'm assuming you did plasti-dip or something similar? It'll be interesting how it holds up against the exhaust heat.

Yes, plasti dip. It holds up up to 200°. Those plastic pieces would melt at that temp. I also saw a video on you tube where the actual metal pipe tips were plasti dipped and it lasted long time. If they dont I will then replace the parts with black oem

Did you tape between the letters and numbers or did you let the plastidip build up there and just peel off? Thinking of doing the same to my badges.

take a look at the second pic, tape is about an inch from the numbers. It isnt a difficult thing to do just a bit time consuming. 6 coats with 30 min between coats and then the time to tape off and clean up. Well worth it as I love the look

Wow, that's brave painting those badges right on the car, no matter how great the masking looks ... particularly since those badges take 60 seconds to remove the whole set and trivial to reattach with replacement 3M tape :-).

but thats the beauty of plasti dip. it sticks to the badge and peels right off the paint as long as it has dried.
check a how to video on you tube to learn. its a very forgiving product

The hue actually looks like it matches the lower dark charcoal in the bumper. I like it. If it holds up for 2 years and you have to redo it, who cares. It’s cheap and easy enough to redo. These are the fun little jobs that have little risk in trying.

Thanks. I'll try it out. I'm going to add the glossifier on top also to give it a shinier look.

How is this holding up? I've done a bit of plastidipping on my older ride (2005) and really interested to do our new 45e.
Did you use this primer? https://www.amazon.com/Plasti-Dip-41...0B2MRE5E&psc=1

I wonder if it helps at all long term. I feel like the chrome isn't a great surface for rubber sticking, but 6 coats is 6 coats :-)

Amazing!

Funny how 15 years ago chrome everything was the way to go, now not so much although I still like some as a contrast. I guess that’s why they have different options.

I just thought I would follow up on this thread. I saw wendyp asked how it is holding up. Nearing 2 1/2 years now and it looks as good as it did in the pictures above.

just another follow up. Now well over 3 1/2 years and they have not changed at all. Same with the exhaust tips. They look like the day I sprayed them. Just FYI

After you spray the badge with plastic dip, do you use a razer to cut around the edge (carefully), and pill out the unwanted coverage?

Stealth, visually and aurally, is the correct path.
