Working full time (in my early 40s now) - cant say I am enjoying but these toys help for weekend escapades or road trips.

I fit into neither of your choices. I stay home with my kids, so it is work, but I don't make money, and it isn't the same as retirement.

I don't think the poll mentioned anything about making money. In that case, sounds like you fit into the working category.

In all honesty, I miss the excitement of a professional career. Thought about consulting but hesitant to make long term commitment. Big challenge is adapting to physical limitations (the "cat like reflexes" are gone) and while I would love to play more golf or work in the garden and detailing cars, the back refuses to accept. Have to work a little harder finding things to get excited about: a big motivation behind opting for the M50i. This forum has made it all that much more interesting and educational for which I am grateful.
It sounds like your time is filled up! Awesome to hear you say your wife is your best friend, it's unfortunate how rare this is!
We're a ways from retiring yet but I'm looking at changing careers when the project I'm currently on wraps up in a few months so my wife and I can work together/be together more, and I can chauffeur her around more than I already do too, lol.

Reading that reminded me of my Grandparents. She never did drive, he would drive her to church on Sundays and wait in the car for her while she was there, haha. Fond memories.

I also found it interesting to read what some members shared about what they do for a living and who may be retired. I wonder on all the car sites I've joined over the years who works and who's retired and who logs into the site from work because some of the replies come so fast during "working hours".

We go back and forth for months or years on these forums, only knowing people by their handle and what they post. I think its easy to forget there are real people behind all this, especially when some get into flaming each other.

So, in terms of how many are working vs retired, looks like the old and trusty 80/20 rule applies here too

Modern technology includes apps with notifications, so if I am tagged, and just doing boring desk work, and have a ready comment off the top of my head, I'll often respond fast much of the time. If any of the conditions above are not met, it won't be fast.

So far 136 people have voted in this poll, I've always wondered about how many are in this forum. The system doesn't allow anyone to vote twice. There are probably a few more who haven't voted, now's your chance. The mix will most likely continue to follow the 80/20 split but am just curious how many are members of this forum.

I'm twice retired, once at 44 after 21 years in the military and then again at 64 after 20 years as a federal contractor. Enjoying life while volunteering at the VA, Red Cross and Meals on Wheels and serving on several local boards and committees.

Some might say you failed at retirement I was told by a retired friend of mine that if I retire and then go back to work, I would have failed at retirement. Then he went on to say that retirement sucks because you have no vacation time, no sick time, no time off, no company benefits, no subsidized 401K or pension. Ha ha ha, I ignored him and retired

Consider it DONE!

Working towards retirement here. Hopefully in the next 12-15 years. (After this week I refuse to check my 401k!)

Ha ha ha....quit looking at your retirement accts and let them do their thing...if you chose good ones and you diversified and are maxing out your deposits, let them grow.

Thanks for being #150!!!! Here is your prize -

Yeah, you may have wanted to create a third option, for those who retired but went back to work. Being fully retired is different from retired from one job, and got another.

Retired from the US military, and in my 2nd career.

I did. My OP said this.. ..

So, for the purposes of this poll, you can only vote in one category...

1. I am still working (this means you are basically working full time and have never retired)

2. I am retired (this means you are either currently retired or you retired but went back to work either full or part time)

Believe me, I do. With my timeline I look at this as another prime opportunity to do some buying. To paraphrase (quote?) Warren Buffet "...be greedy when others are fearful."

Right. Sorry, I was only pointing out that the poll lumps two types of people into the 2nd category, those fully retired, and those of us who retired, but went into another job. Two different things. Your poll though!
