Heated Steering Wheel

Is the only way to get a heated steering wheel is to order the 4HB package that includes the heated arm rests?

Confirming that you'll need to order 4HB.

How much does the dealer usually charge for heating steering wheel installation, for a 2019 X5?

The actual switch should be relatively inexpensive but fairly labor intensive to install.

I'm not sure how routinely they install options post delivery unless there's an issue:

If it's anything like earlier platforms, all of the wiring and hardware should already exist in the steering column. You need to source yourself an OEM Heated wheel - once you do that, go to any reputable indy shop and tell them you need the wheel swapped, all buttons/trim go off the old and onto the new, and plug in the connector for heating.

The heating button is part of the wheel, my economies-of-scale experience tells me that the harness/loom and associated fuse/relay should all be there just waiting for the right wheel.

You may need coding, but I'd doubt that's even a necessity.

Has anyone had any luck with this?
I ordered our X5 without that package thinking that the heated steering wheel would be standard, or at least part of the executive package.
Needless to say, I was baffled once I got the car...

Asked the dealer if they could retrofit and they said no.

Curious to see if anyone has been successful.

I’m in the same boat, I went to the dealer and asked if they can swap them out and they said no also. Unless they come out with a wiring harness for it, which was unavailable at the time I visited my SA. I’ll be following this thread as I’m interested if anyone has been able to do this.

Sorry you did not get what you wanted. The BMW build your own app can be challenging, but the heated steering wheel option is pretty clear. The Executive Package includes 16 features and they list them all. Heated Steering Wheel is not one of them. The option that includes Heated Steering Wheel is called "Heated Front Seats, Armrests & Steering Wheel" One could argue that these features should be standard. A lot of keystrokes have been spent on the topic of BMW charging extra for things Kia give you standard. Its a shame but its just the way it is. I hate it but I like driving a BMW too much to leave the brand over it. I'll choose the options I want and pay whatever it takes and then negotiate the best discount off MSRP I can get.

Hopefully you can get heated steering wheel added for a reasonable price. Not to rub it in, but it's awesome

Just to add my two cents, I ordered the steering wheel heating and use it regularly now...One interesting point though, it comes with not only the center console heated like it's shown on some websites (x6 g06) but also with the heated door armrests.

Funny thing about it, when you activate the seat heaters (or they are automatically turned on below the set temperature), the armsrests turn on as well, but not the steering. You need to press the button on it to get it going. On the other hand, if you only turn on the steering wheel heating only, armrests stay cool. So even though they come in a package with the steering, they are more functionally related to the seats.

I never thought about it but I think you are right! I'll have to check that out next time I'm in the car.

BMW stupid packages, to me this is simply no longer a premium brand, I was looking into the same for our current order, why can we simply pay for what we need when ordering our 2017 X5, the grey shaded windscreens band option, for the last 20 years use to be at around 150 Euros, of course BMW felt it need to package this with the Climate windscreen at 400 Euros, not that we need this windscreen for the mild climate in Ireland, so ticked the box knowing we paying more than double, but the best part the car was delivered with the climate stupid windscreen and guess what the shaded top windscreen band missing.
To me premium means large selection detailed options, Packages are simply volume! Sound they bring this to the ever shrinking list of color options.

Over here BMW is offering no packages at all.

You choose engine, trim (base, xLine or mSport) and everything else is individual options.

Hi mcsa, do you have the code for steering wheel heating on its own?

No, as others correctly stated it is part of option 4HB: Heated Front Seats Armrests & Steering Wheel.

We just don't have those Executive, Premium, Winter or whatever the other markets have, packages.

Option 4HB is called heat comfort package in Belgium.

Heated: Front seats - armrests and steering wheel.

If you already have heated seats in another package it will delete that and replace it with 4HB (or make 4HB 435 euro cheaper)
