X5 M50i inbound - few questions
Ordered my new M50i in early January and it should arrive in May (if it ever goes into production.....was originally promised end of March).
After 10 years of E92 M3s and F82 M4s I'm looking forward to switching to an SUV but have a few questions: - are there any after market front splitters that are decent aside from the pricey ACS option? Overall I love the G05 look but think the front end needs some subtle sportiness adding - are there any exhaust options to release the V8 sound more (especially as we have the stupid OPF filters here in the UK)? Doesn't look like there are any OEM options aside from the stock M sport exhaust? - I'm assuming aside from normal best practice on running the car in there is no running in service like on the full fat Ms? - has anyone round a good trunk/boot covers for dogs that will cover the rear? The OEM BMW only seems to cover the floor and it would be nice to protect the sides and back of the rear seats from hair/mud/dirt/slobber! Last edited by Unit; 03-06-2020 at 06:17 AM.. |

it's an SUV, not a race car. modified ones are hard to find. I'm sure there is a front splitter and spoilers out there, but I'm not sure how many people are buying them for an x5 or x7.

Yeah agreed mate. Just surprised there aren't more options as there were lots for the previous generation. Just want something subtle for the front end rather than anything brash,

2. No. I removed the resonator and placed the X-pipe there added really nothing for sound but a bit when getting on it hard. Next step will be to build a custom muffler. 3. Don't know what you are asking. I assume you mean engine breakin period, Yes according to the manual there is. 4. All I have is the rubber mat.

Coming from M3s and M4s I'm used to there being a service required at 1,200 miles where BMW switch oils from a thinner running-in lubricant to normal oil. This is required to maintain warranty and typically revs have to be kept below a specified level during the 1,200. I know the M50i isn't a full fat M but was curious if this was required given the size and BHP of the engine. Sounds like there is just a best-practice breaking-in recommendation though rather than a mandatory service? |

There are some M Performance parts like winglets etc, but they come at high price. Other non-OEM parts and kits I have seen would fall into the category "Why would anyone in their right mind put THAT on a 110.000€ car?"
For the trunk mat, I was gonna get this: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B07WC847PG/...v_ov_lig_dp_it I didn't, and after one trip with the dog it looks like I transported roadkill. There is no early oil-service like you do on a full-on M engine. Exhaust sound -- yes, I would also like to have a mode on the lines of "asocial psychopath", I do miss the next level of V8 TT madness. |

Yes OPF and noise limits are big factor to consider in the UK. The installation of the OPF has muted the dB of the exhaust and further annual limits have kicked in. So next years M50i will be slightly quieter than your one!
The department of Transport has indicated it will remain aligned with EU legislation in respect of this and so our exhausts will continue to sound crap! As a future m3 buyer I'm really concerned it will sound awful. Your best bet is to speak to motech ? Heard of them ? They might be able to help. Your model is so new the options might be limited for now but you may be able to get the resonator deleted which will increase the depth of the exhaust note and the volume slightly. As the OPF stays in place - it's legal Good luck and great car, I would have gone for one if my annual mileage wasn't 18k!

JC Sportsline sells a front splitter. It can be purchased from Amazon or Alibaba.
