Rock chips
Is it me or is the windshield on the new G05 a little less resistant to rock chips than the average windscreen? I've had the vehicle for a year now with only 10K miles and am a bit surprised at how many chips are in the windshield already.

Funny you mention that...The X3 was my first SUV and the first to act like a rock magnet. I wondered if it was the rake or the height or what but none of my other "cars" have had as many rocks hit the windshield as the X3.

a few here on this forum blamed it on design of the G05, but i disagree. I live in AZ and we have extreme amount of rocks/debris flying in our highways, over a year, no rock chips on the windshield here **knock on wood**. did get some chips on the grill (only place not wrapped with ppf), but not a big deal... imo, luck of the draw.

The windshield isn't the problem but rather the lower front doors gets hammered with rock chips. My X5M has less than 1K miles and i already have half a dozen chips by the lower front doors. I need to figure out some sort of mud flap solution before the chips gets out of hand.

Ouch. That sucks Alan. I was wondering how much to spend on PPF for my car, and now I’m thinking it will be more than initially planned. I was worried about door scratches from parking lots and didn’t even think about rocks!

So I can't speak to how bad the chips might be on the front and/or the doors as I had my vehicle wrapped day one with SunTek - a few nicks on the hood in the PPF but that's it. But the windshield just seems a lot "softer" than my other cars. I never got this many chips in so little time.

The Dutch (Belgium) configurator states: Het akoestisch glas van de zijruiten vormt een aanvulling op het akoestisch glas van de voorruit en verlaagt duidelijk het geluidsniveau voor alle inzittenden. Google-translated: The acoustic glass of the side windows complements the acoustic glass of the windscreen and clearly reduces the noise level for all occupants. This is also the info I got from my sales rep. Maybe it's different in the US, or they made a mistake in their description |

I got mine replaced in March and two weeks ago hit a patch if recently milled asphalt. Rocks were flying everywhere and of course my formerly decent windshield is now cracked yet again.
I wonder how often insurance will put up with windshield replacements before they drop you? That and the proven track record of property damage from the goons that do the replacements gives me second thoughts about replacing the replacement. |

I’ve got Geico and their mechanical breakdown insurance. My understanding is that Geico is rather happy to drop policies in general. Can’t beat $0 for a windshield though even if it only lasted 3 months.
