How do you get iDrive/ CarPlay to work consistently?

Every now and then, my idrive screen just says "no media available" or something equivalent whenever I step in and out of my car, while CarPlay continues to play music
. Everything works from CarPlay but not idrive. I can't pull up a playlist or go forward or backward to the tracks I have playing. It can me 10 minutes or an hour. The trip length doesn't matter. It'll randomly just not work with idrive. and then I can either toggle CarPlay and idrive on and off. Or I have to restart idrive, which is way more annoying.

So what I'm asking is those if us with iPhones. How do you circumvent this? Or is this the unresolvable fault of the Germans or Tim Apple?

I don't think it's CarPlay that's the issue as I get that just playing through idrive, and had it previously in my G30. It seems to have got worse lately, though I can't pinpoint any particular changes in set-up.

What iDrive software version are you on?

Actually, this is an unusual CarPlay problem - I have never experienced this before. The more common CarPlay problem in earlier iDrive version was that the CarPlay would not connect (you could not play the music) after you step in and out of the car (a WiFi toggle would solve this particular problem).

Doesn’t sound right mate. Mine works seamlessly when I jump in the car. Loads up as CarPlay and resumes whatever track and playlist I last had playing on my iPhone. Then I can toggle from CarPlay to other media ie radio as and when I need via idrive.

When is the last time you restarted your phone?

Which iPhone model are you using? I haven't had these issues with either a X or Xs.

yes I constantly restart my phone. Sometimes my phone being charged in the center console gets so hot, it starts to visibly slow down carplay, and so then I have to restart it.

I have a non-jailbroken iphone X updated to the lasted ios build. the g05 is also unmodded. it's basically been like this since day 1, every now and then I'll get out of my car for a few minutes and come back, and i'll have these aforementioned symptoms.

I use Spotify via CP and it's inconsistent. Unless I already had Spotify running in the background with something selected, I either have to pick the music in CP or on my phone. It never seems to automatically start playing.

yep, this happens to me. I have all of my music on my phone yet whenever I get in my car, it *rarely* starts playing music where I left off. I have to click to get to carplay and then click play and then the music will start.

I have the same experience, and it's bloody annoying.
