GPS Issues?

I had a 5 hour trip today in my new 50e. Stopped at a rest area about an hour from home and when I got back into the car the Navigation system had no idea where I was. It had worked great up until the rest area stop. I am currently in the Smokies and my Navigation system says I’m in North Alabama. Called my dealer’s Genius and he had no clue as to my problem other than the GPS module might have gone bad. My Speed Limit indicator is not working properly either. He said it uses both a camera and GPS. Anyone else have this problem?

Your first solution should be rebooting the iDrive. It solves the majority of issues that occur. Press and hold the volume button for about 30 seconds. (You can tell when it's restarting.) It's not unusual to reboot 2 or 3 times in a row to resolve the problems.

I did reboot once and nothing changed. I was going to try and reboot again this morning.

I just went out and rebooted the Idrive 3 times with no resolution to the GPS problems. I used CarPlay from Knoxville to my destination and didn’t really like it. I’d rather use the BMW navigation.

Is there any way of checking the status of the GPS antenna?

I too much prefer iDrive to CarPlay. Navigation outages happen, but I'd expect we would here about it here. It sounds like a module issue that will have to be serviced. This is disappointing particularly on a trip. At least you have CarPlay as a temporary work around.

Best,

The real bummer is the car only has 1300 miles on it.

There is a hidden menu , do a search for it here it’s a sequence of controls on the idrive knob and one option should be for gps and you can see if it’s getting a signal
If not it may indicate a faulty aerial or cable connection I guess

Can’t find the hidden menu. Any idea where to find it?

You'll need this post. More info here, which is where I first learned of the BC menu.

Got the car out to go eat and go to the National Quartet Convention and the Navigation system was working fine. Don’t know why but am happy about it
