Interesting. I thought they dropped Dynamic and added Active as standard. And then Adaptive as the upgrade.

Nope Dynamic still standard and ACC was a seperate option at least on the 2017s (DAP didn't exist) but now DAP is the only way to get ACC.

Active and Adaptive cruise means the same thing.

Yep and the A stands for Adaptive but in common consumer nomenclature it's referred to as Active. Same means to an end and I haven't had a vehicle in nearly 20 years without it. Now from a BMW standpoint I wouldn't buy anything without DAP as the capability in its entirety is worth every penny. 👍

Your info is better than most dealers! When activating the hands-free driving mode, do they lights on the steering wheel always blink green/yellow to keep your attention? Is there a different steering wheel for vehicles equipped with DAP and those not?

When hands-free is activated the green lights are solid. If it needs to get your attention it will blink yellow or red if it is turning off.

The steering wheels have the same button layout but non-DAP vehicles are missing the lights.

Flashing lights on the steering wheel, wow. DAP is a great example of “to each their own” I guess. It seems like it can be a big part of the driver experience, with a lot of added pieces to manage. If that front sensor gets a rock chip in it, big repair bills. And tech is quickly outdated. It does seem lazy how BMW kept the same radar cover for non-DAP cars rather than finish the design off separately. The goal of DAP is a less stressful driving experience but some may find it more stressful to work for a computer rather than just drive the car. Tire size and seats probably do the most to affect driving comfort in my opinion. But anyone can find a use for all of those added aids if they try to.

I’ve seen some pics of front license plates installed and they block the radar. BMW gives you a bracket for the front license in the US? It looks like it would slightly brush up against the grill piece if the radar is not covered. Those rectangular European plates fit much better!

Not possible. The bracket that comes with the vehicle is designed so that can't happen. It can only be put on one way so the radar wasn't blocked.
