Let's use 4.5mile/kWh for this small ultra efficient EV. It is $0.13/mile. The counter example of the ultra efficient hybrid is Toyota Prius, doing 57MPG using 87, which is $3.69 this week, making $0.065/mile. Camry Hybrid LE is 52MPG, $0.07/mile. Now, let me go to Highlander Hybrid, 35MPG => $0.105/mile.

The issue it not EV isn't efficient, it is PGE electricity is too expansive

Agreed, PGE is way too expansive as customers are paying extra for PGE to fixproblems for customers hundreds of miles away, such as burying power lines in rural areas.

AND, 50 cents a kWh is crazy with another rate hike coming.

Really, they just raised 12.8% on Jan 1st. another one??? WTF!!

One thing I know is, PGE is also trying to screw solar panel owner. They proposed a few pricing structure, where a fixed flat but income dependent rate is charged, then the rate/kWh will be come very low. For median income household, the fixed flat rate is about $90, which we have to pay even if we use zero kWh. Then each kWh will be charged 5-10cents. For solar people where we size our system to cover our usage, we are paying $10/month now. With new structure, we will pay $90. CA/PGE are actively kill the solar industry too.

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) approved a rate increase of 13 percent this month and is considering another 7.2 percent hike for March.

1) In the Prius example with the small EV, the $7,500 cash credit gets you 115,384 miles in benefit of the EV.

2) I feel for you and CA residents and agree it's too expensive.

3) Thanks for reminding me, that I will not move to CA.

Eelnoraa good point, I was being lazy and took that off the BMW app.
I am spending £170 ( pounds) a month on electric, petrol appears to be a lot less than before but clearly it’s BS.
I will from February take a full account of the costs and repost.

Aussiejem made good point that with 50e it gives that option to travel around the city with pure electric option, but this car ain’t saving the planet!

Maybe it's time to move:
----------------------------
Florida Power and Light's net metering program allows homeowners to install and connect solar energy systems to the grid and receive credit for the energy produced by their systems.
----------------------------

A friend of mine installed the Tesla battery wall and runs the car and the house (with the exception of AC) on Solar. On days they don't consume much e.g. a weekend away, they get credit feeding to the grid which lowers their AC bill. During a hurricane outage it operates the house (without AC) with normal usage for 3 days.

Seems the EV incentive tax credit is becoming irrelevant as charging rates climb.

I have seen no better setup than the one I have. About $0.50 per day to rent an internet-connected Chargepoint appliance. And then, from 12:00 AM to 6:00 AM I can charge at $0.028 per kW/h. Even at peak evening hours, during which there is almost no need to charge, the rate is under $0.20 kW/h.

I think the solar is of great value charging the Tesla Y and incoming 50e. I also installed the Tesla Powerwall Battery so it gives me some relief from energy costs... again all depends when one charges to maximise the system efficiency

Too many people in CA, not enough generating capacity. The environment impact studies are too big a PIA.

In the winter I pay a $0.13 KwH fixed rate. Jumps to $.17 KWh fixed rate in the summer.
