Potential New Stop Sale/Recall on 2024 50e?

I just put my VIN in the German recall checking website: https://www.bmw.at/de/footer/quick-l...-aktionen.html And got a message:

Quote:
which translate to:

I think this is a different code than the previous airbag stop sale code. The airbag code was STOP024880, but mine is STOP024882. Maybe this can be related to the AC shut off valve issue?

Same - it popped up today. when I looked up 2 days ago it was all clear. It still shows nothing on the USA recall site yet. I googled the keyword "BMW STOP024882" and somehow first result is related to the part site of the control valve... (edit - this seems to be a different valve)

now, it's only affected 1 of our X5 50es that already has the airbag stop sale. I don't see any other vehicles in our pipeline affected

Just called my SA and confirmed they can see STOP024882 tied to my VIN in the system. It is indeed Diagnostic Module for Tank Leaks.

However, there is currently no remedy available - BMW has only identified the issue but has not published how to fix to the dealership yet - and they don't know if it would be a software update or need to swap parts.

My car was not affected by airbag stop sale, but is in the shop for 1) fuel rail sensor replacement 2) HV battery valve thing.

What I’m getting from this is to cancel my 50e and switch to 40 or 60i

Could be a small amount but all these issues scare the hell out of me, and don’t seem to exist for 40/60i

Thoughts?

I don’t think it worth it - the problem is mostly concentrated in a particular part, so most likely bmw will just recall and replace it. Should be fine in the long run.

New 40i drivetrain also has its own problem - namely the electric motor may throw issue some folk has seen in LCI x5-x7, although less common.

For the most part, BMW does not manufacture the electronics modules used in their vehicles. They may design them, but then contract them out to companies that specialize in that sort of thing. Even the best QA/QC won't catch everything. There are still some chip shortages, so to accommodate that, the designs may get tweaked. This just complicates things. By no means is this limited to BMW, and BMW does require good tracking records, which is why they can often isolate problems to specific vehicles. Note too that there may be mulitple production lines, and a hiccup on one line from a company may not be a problem on another. You can only test things to a certain level, and it is often done with spot checks rather than 100% functional tests on each module.

With today's vehicles being complex, rolling computers, it's impressive that most of them don't have issues! BMW does seem to try to isolate problem vehicles so they don't get into customer hands, but that can cause a lot of frustration with the delays...better that then having it fail after delivery IMHO.

With my three BMWs that I've owned, each was a first year thing as sold in the USA...I've had almost no issues, and those that did occur were preventative rather than repairing something that broke.

If you want a 50e, buy it. Most people don't have issues...those that do, thend to post here, so it may seem like a big deal that may not be. I do feel a little sorry for those that may have a problem, but most never do, and those don't as often show up in a forum...lots of people just read, and don't post.

I have week 24 build. Was all clear few days ago and I'm getting the same message as OP for x50e. On BMW US site however there is no recall information. I guess there is nothing to be done unless BMW issues an official recall. Please post if anyone hears something new.

Well I'm 2 for 3. HV Battery valve and now the Module for tank leak. Somehow I missed on the airbag issue. Week 2 in the shop. No end in site at this point.

Sorry I guess 3 for 3 when looking again at the German site...STOP024882 and STOP0065230400 and the HV Battery valve....This is getting ridiculous.

Do you have any information about SIB 65 19 23? I couldn't find anything online. Hoping to see if describes the solution for the problem (how long it will take).
My X6 M60i is affected, was supposed to pick up from delivery center on 7/21, it's not officially cancelled, but I don't have a confirmation either.
Thanks in advance!

Pretty sure bmw manufacture engineers are working their ass off trying to sort this shit out… there must be immense pressure

This exact same powertrain is supposed to also be on 750e, 550e and in China base version of XM which all supposed to go into production in near future

Just re-checked my in-transit M60i build and there's a 2nd code on it now.

0065230400, STOP024880

The STOP024880 code was there when I first checked after seeing some thread here. The 0065230400 must have been added in the last couple of days.

I remember back in 11/2020, there was a stop sale tank ventilation notice that was out for the 2021 X5M and X6M's. My factory ordered X5M arrived at the dealer a day later and the S/A mentioned the stop sale order. But it was just a S/W update performed during the PDI and I picked the car up the next day.
Hopefully it's a similar situation for many of you this time.

I saw that, too, on another thread, stating that the 0065230400 is more of a notice (not a Stop Sale) about the 8.5 software being available, or something to that effect.

Still curious about the STOP024880. I see where you described it as about a "knee airbag". I guess we'll see if the dealer can address it quickly when the car arrives.

Yes, that is the technical campaign for updating to 8.5.

Last we saw, there was no solution to the knee air bag recall available. I would imagine that should change soon if it hasn't already.
