Gesture Control tips

What are some tips on making the most of gesture control? Can it actually save time and be convenient? Will be they adding more recognized gestures down the line?

You can assign the 5-0-5 gesture to almost anything by pressing and holding on something and then you can assign it to a gesture. For example, max AC can be turned on with this gesture

Yep and by default the gesture controls in iD8 are limited unless you assign them to shortcuts. On iD7 5-05 is directly capable of assigning to NAV home. Figured it out on iD8 via shortcuts to work the same in iD8 but now setting that for max AC. 👍

We turned it off on our 45e, as it was constantly going off. The only thing we used it for was volume control, and it wasn't worth the hassle.

Same here, didn’t use it much and was more annoyed that wife keep on switching the radio stations as she likes to talk with her hands.

I mainly use the track fwd/backward gestures since my right hand is already in the camera’s view as it rests on the gear lever. I also assigned the open-close-open gesture for Home navigation. sometimes I’ll use the volume up/down gestures if I need a quick, rough volume adjustment. I turned off the index pointing gesture because pointing the finger towards the screen is too common, such as when touching the screen. I haven’t heard of new gestures in the works

I used the gesture controls for volume adjustment in my 2019 40i but with my new LCI 50e with iDrive 8.5 it does not recognize the gestures very well and I tend not to use it anymore.

I also have the 2024 50e and I’ve noticed the gesture control isn’t that responsive. It doesn’t catch my hand a lot of the time. What can be done about this?

It is mostly a gimmick, and not that helpful. I do, however, like the feature to set a gesture for Home as the destination on the navigation.

I wonder if they could improve the functionality through OTA updates in the future. Seems like the system should be able to learn a lot.

I use it mainly for the "mute" and "unmute" function for the stereo.

The rest are quite hit and miss so I don't really bother.
