which 20" wheels have u decided on? that could be the limiting factor for those tire dealers as well; something we can't account for unless we also know the specs of the wheels...

he said it doesnt matter on the wheels since the wheels has the same specs as the oem 20s. Even if i brought in a set bmw 20s they cannot sell me the tires because of the sticker on the door panel.

Are your experiences in-store? if not, have you tried online? interesting stance they're taking even with OEM 20". Sorry man. yeah, can try the dealership.

looks like my options are get it elsewhere like the dealership or just settle for the 265/50r20. Last edited by dream54ing; 02-10-2021 at 02:21 PM.. |

The label on the door panel should be available as a part...have you tried to just order one with the tire size you wanted? Shouldn't hurt to have two different labels there.

what about the dealer? Will they install the 20s in OEM size. it may cost you more but I wouldn't think they'd give you a hard time with the all-seasons. People of people downgrade from 21/22 inch rims to 20 for ride comfort.
or buy a used/take-off set with tires mounted: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1790497

the issue here is not being able to get 275/45r20. discount is only willing to sell 265/50r20 due to load requirement. Alternately i can buy that set and install it myself. then they would sell me new tires, but then i'll end up with extra set of tires, tires that are not winter or all weather that i need. Huh???? 275/45/20 has same weight rating as 265/50/20 It should be 111 XL, WV or Y is speed rating. Show them this. It is directly from their website If not seriously go through website. My local discount tire says there's no difference when ordering from the store or website. And call regional office if they deny install if you buy it from online. https://www.discounttire.com/custome...gional-offices |

275/45/30 has a load index rating of 110Y and 265/50r20 is 111, which is the ratings i currently have on the vehicle. i think youre not understanding, it doesnt matter what other oem size for the X5 are, but what matter is the setup i currently have on my car and sticker on the door panel, which is 21" staggered with the rear having 111Y load index rating. IF my original tires were the 20", there wont be an issue. they will not install if i buy them online, because the first thing they check is the sticker on the door panel. its a liability issue for them. No. Label is specific to VIN, so can't just order a generic one.

after doing more digging, I'm not the only one who run into this issue. Discount tire's load index policy has others people scratching their head as well. They simply dont want to be responsible if anything happens, a liability for them.
this is what i found.. "We do this because tires are pneumatic and load carrying capacity changes with pressure. Due to this, and also for handling purposes, vehicle manufacturers build in a margin of safety into the tires. To ensure our safety standards are on par, all the tires we sell for vehicles driven on the street must meet or exceed the requirements set by the vehicle manufacture." In my case, they based it specifically on the what my vehicle has on and the sticker it came with, not a general manufacture spec for the X5. Stupid, yes, but cant fault them for protecting themselves from anyone who try to pull a quick one on them. they rather not have the sales to prevent any lawsuit. |

110 means 2337 max pounds per tire 111 means 2403 max pounds per tire did they even look at the Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) sticker on the B pillar? (see below): GAWR is the maximum allowable weight for an individual axle. my rear GAWR is 3968 pounds. my 275/45R20 run flat tires are rated 110, which means that the two tires that are on my rear axle can carry a maximum of 4674 pounds. their load capacity exceeds the rear GAWR by 706 pounds... more than capable. since they're being picky between axle loads, show them this. you can even argue that 110 rating is more than capable for the car's gross weight. my GVWR is 6967 pounds. all four of my tires can carry a maximum of 9348 pounds. again, more than capable. tires with 111 rating can only carry an additional 132 pounds per axle or 264 pounds for the whole vehicle compared to tires with 110 rating... not a significant increase at all! either tire exceeds the vehicle's load requirements. i had a great first experience with a their mobile tire installer, ASAP Tire! I was just responding to your comment. I honestly do appreciate your help. as mentioned, my feasible options are -get wheels and tires else where (went to a few and they want to charge me extra because i have an X5, plus limited tire and wheel selection) -get wheels and settle for 265/50/20 tires at discount -go to the dealership and let them rip a hole in my wallet -get all weather/all season for my current 21s staggered i do want to get wheels, tires and installation at the same place so if theres any issues, i dont get the run around. right now, getting the taller tires look like the option i'm leaning towards since i'm getting the wheel and tires i prefer. just need to wait for service manager to get back with warranty on that size tires Last edited by dream54ing; 02-11-2021 at 02:23 PM.. |
