Doesn't The bar in the middle look a bit tacky on a 40i where we only have a single exhaust pipe?

I have been wanting to go this route but I am just concerned about how the tape will hold up on such a high heat area and how that bar would look on a single exhaust pipe.
I have that, tape and bar in the middle and all. Holding up great under heat — the middle gets hot enough to burn, but the surrounds are just warm. And I don't care about the one vs two pipes — I wanted black and the bar in the middle is the only version that was available that fit my setup.

What you're describing is how most MB exhausts are on their AMG vehicles even with 1 pipe AMG 35/45/43's especially

Makes sense - just ordered mine. Another thought/question - why can't we just cut off the middle bar? It is not like it is going to compromise the strength of the unit once it is put on to the vehicle.

I think the bar in the middle is for an M50d or something like that that has two pipes and isn't available (yet) in North America. It's the only one available that fits over the M Sport exhaust surrounds. Don't know why aftermarket hasn't clued into M Sport exhaust specific surround stick-ons.

Cutting out the middle bar after the fact seems unlikely to me to produce a good result without a very significant amount of care and post processing, including possibly paint touch up — not worth the effort for a stick-on those entire value proposition is ease and speed.

Unless you've got some nice equipment, cutting off the mid bar would be very noticeable in a not so good way. Just my $0.02.

I guess cutting it very flush with the edge of the trim and then sanding it just to even it out maybe?

Once you have it in your hands, I think you'll come to the same conclusion that that is unlikely to produce a good result.

Did you have to remove the original chrome tips on the exhaust or just tape the black ones on top of the chrome tips?

Just clean the old ones and tape the new ones right on top. 2 minutes work per side - most of it trying to get the red tape cover off the adhesive strips - I found that a sharp tweezer or sharp knife point helps best!

Its powder coated metal from what I can tell so cutting/sanding and repainting will probably not come out right.

A better bet maybe to ask the seller (joyce) to send you ones without the middle bar - I found them very responsive when I initially asked for all black ones and they were able to source some. I suggested they would sell a lot more black ones than silver ones that do what the factory tips do already!
