My X5 50i M-Sport has a mean little track star brother

I have been on a quiet journey in finding a replacement for my 911 C4S. It has lead me into testing a lot of performance cars but as they say, there can only be one winner and this time it wasn’t a new 911.

Here is the link on the M2C forum of the details.

A fully loaded M2 Competition in Long Beach blue has dethroned the 911 as my track/fun car.

Really? I had the pleasure of driving the same M2 comp, M5 comp, and M850i at the M Tour last month. The M2 comp was super quick, but didnt impress me much. On the other hand, the M5 comp blew me away! Both I was able to peddle to the metal Never drove the 911

That's one pretty little M2C, I hope it's a 6MT I've been considering one for myself in Hockenheim Silver but I'm still undecided. DCT would be my go to seeing how I haven't touched a manual since I was 17 but I still love their feel!

Nope, DCT. On my track days in PCA at the Glen a few years back I noticed the earlier DCT would always overtake the same models in the turns with manual and the new DCT are significantly better. I would have never have thought I would go back to another DCT but they are just that good.
It shifts so fast and slams you hard on each shift. It’s adjustable shift speed really makes a huge difference than on earlier DCT I had owned before from Audi. It feels just as fast as the latest PDK on the 992. The rev match and burble pops from the exhaust are 3 times louder than the new 992 with performance exhaust.

The take away is Joy and uncomplicated FUN.

I understand if many scratch their heads at this but if you have built up the Porsche 911 in your mind over the years, then you need to buy one and get some P-Car real world experience. By all means get that car off your bucket list. Once the novelty of ownership wears off and it’s no big deal sort of mind set, then I believe you will see how pure the M2C really is in comparison. There is a reason why so many professional reviews done by experienced real car guys gush and swoon over the M2C. It brings back a feeling we once had years ago with a perfect drivers car that we though we would never see again. The E30 is back in modern form and with lots more HP. Yea, it doesn’t have 550hp and go sub 3 seconds 0-60mph and it’s only .3 seconds slower 0-60mph than the new 992 C4S but I could care less.

Now I get to wait for another rebate check from the BMW club.

Love the tri color M stitching, open pore carbon fiber and alcantara on everything. IMO, just the right amount of tech on a track car.

(got to take better pics)

I drove the original M2 DCT and of BMW made that veraion better than I'm all for one over a manual. As for the tech side I agree, there's no need for a plethora of electronics in a fun car which is another reason I like th M2. There aren't many cars out there as pure these days, in fact I don't know of any like the M2C in the same class except the underpowered Miata or maybe the new Cayman GT4 (if Porsche didn't ruin that too) Great write up! I hope to see more of both cars from you!

Do your kids actually fit in the back? I mean I'm no giant but those rear seats aren't exactly spacious

I am shocked with the back seat room. I am 6’2” and my 12 yr old boy has about 6” from his knees to touching the back of my seat. My 10yr daughter behind my wife is even better. The back is is even reclined rather well. Trunk is down right roomy enough for a family trip for a few days. They want me to take them to the beach in the M2C they like it so much and that’s a 4 hour trip.
I could sit back there for a 30 mile journey. The head room in the back is good for anyone 5’ 10” and under. 6” and over and your head will rest against the headliner. It’s a luxury car compared to the room in the back of a 911. In car WiFi hotspot will also keep the kids entertained with their iPads. Rather practical for a sports car.

Beautiful car. I aspire to own a Porsche one day but I also aspire to own a M car first and that is about as good as it gets, right down to the Long Beach Blue.
