Filtering profanity

Im wondering if there is a way to filter out profanity such as the f-bomb and a few others. It would be nice (especially for the many of us that have workplace filters) if they could atleast place an * in the vowels for some of those words so they would not be picked up by the filter.

I see more and more profanity, and will most likely stop reading posts if it continues. I know other message boards have that feature, and would like to see it happen here.

Any support? suggestions?

Personally, I dont care for the use of profanity and i dont use it much myself but i also dont care if other people feel the need to use it. I dont really see a point in people putting a asterisk substituting a letter (i.e. sh*t) as our minds will just automatically fill in that asterisk with the correct letter.

This is the internet and there is a lot more stuff i'd be worried about then people dropping the f bomb here and there.

just my .2c

Getting people to stop swearing on the internet is like resurrecting Jesus, but a profanity filter is a good idea for work use

have we seriously come to this? profanity is here to stay whether people like it or not. filtering it out won't do anything except take this site from the masterpiece it is to just another censored piece of **** on the internet! No need to be so sensitive about it. If you don't like it, that's fair enough but us sewer mouths shouldn't lose our 1st amendment right over it.

p.s. instead of a profanity filter at work you should have an internet filter.....stop wasting company resources on leisure internet use.

I think you have a misunderstanding of the first amendment. Censoring e90post wouldn't violate your first amendment rights in the slightest, unless it was the government doing the censoring.

That said, I really don't support censorship in an internet forum. To my mind, words are meant to express thoughts, and can only be judged to be good or bad within that context. To me, a bad word is one that fails to convey meaning. Sometimes a person really does get f#$%in pissed off. I suppose I take the more pragmatic view of language.

It is not that bad on E90, I think it is generally pretty clean, the occasional F bomb an d a WTF but really, that is the way life is too.

Don't forget we have a very wide range of ages here 18 - 40+ year olds
