I think the black grill looks best with (mineral) white -- good contrast.
I will leave the grill as is on my sapphire black. Don't like the all black look.... but personal taste

If it wasn't chrome I wouldn't change mine either but chrome is simply hideous imo.

Looks good, can you take a picture of the grill front the side? It doesn't look pure black on INDs site and in some pics. Is the color just black? It sorta looked like the black exhaust enclosure which aren't pure black

It is pure black gloss finish from IND, matches perfect with the gloss black cooling vents behind the grille. Total black out! Took me all of 5 minutes to remove the factory one and install the new one.

Not offering a blacked out grill from the factory, especially with the M package, is a complete travesty. Even more annoying is that it will probably become a factory option on the LCI.

i think they are doing it for purpose of showing off that new redesigned grill. and if it was black it would not pop on a newly redesigned car. i am sure at some point they will offer that as an option.

I agree, but even the redesigned X3 had a Cerium grey one on the M Performance version like mine which is way less tacky (see below). I bought a black G05 grill which is getting wrapped in PPF whenever I actually get my car. The grill is too large, especially when painted for me to leave unprotected

Cerium grey accents, while not black are still better than tacky chrome. Even the exhaust tips on my M40i are black from the factory so who knows why BMW though chrome was a good idea.

It is now included in the shadow line, together with black exhaust tips, straight from the factory. I had to re-confirm my order for my 45e m sport, cause quite some options changed or got deleted, the black grill in the shadow line was one of the changes.

I installed the black powder coated metal exhaust tips from eBay. Only concern is they are adhered on using a very sticky and what I assume (yeah I know) is high temp tape. Time will tell if adhesive holds. Quality looks good. What do you think?

Think I'm going with the Cerium Gray with the exception of the mirror caps. Very nice look with Phytonic Blue IMO.

yes but you're paying $2200 for a grill and exhaust surrounds which is stupid. The exhaust surrounds were $250 (no $480) and the grill is $150 for a black version (IND painted one is $500).

The shadow line is included in the M sport package and the extra details i paid €289, which is an OK deal.

Starting with MY20, in the US the extended shadow line trim is $350 which isn't bad.

Doesn't The bar in the middle look a bit tacky on a 40i where we only have a single exhaust pipe?

I have been wanting to go this route but I am just concerned about how the tape will hold up on such a high heat area and how that bar would look on a single exhaust pipe.

I have that, tape and bar in the middle and all. Holding up great under heat — the middle gets hot enough to burn, but the surrounds are just warm. And I don't care about the one vs two pipes — I wanted black and the bar in the middle is the only version that was available that fit my setup.
