I'd agree with you all except...

1) I have disabled auto lock/unlock

2) the key fob was definitely more than 1m/3ft away. It was 10ft away inside my house on the counter.

You may have bumped the parking lights button with your knee upon egress.

The car was locked and the light panel didn't show the indicator next to the parking lights. Plus they only come on one side at a time. All four corners were illuminated.

How many times have we heard of peoples phones turning into bricks during an update or computers freezing or other strange phenomenon that occurs and then disappears or needs you to turn the device off and back on or reboot and all is well. I've had router updates fail and brick my router. You can't trust robots or software.

I have seen where a certain software feature wasn't working like I had it set to work. I'd check all the settings, the checkmarks were all in the correct little boxes, all settings were correct. Even rebooting sometimes doesn't work but, going back to the proper setting, unchecking it, saving the settings and then rechecking the box and saving again, many times does the trick. We used to call it a stuck bit at work.

BMW's auto save so why not go back into the Comfort Access screen, enable all touchless locking/unlocking. Exit that screen. You may even want to reboot iDrive at this point, if you dare. Then verify touchless locking/unlocking works as intended. Then go back in and disable it.

If that works, good. If you still have the same issue, put it on a list for your next dealer visit and let them scratch their heads but this one may be hard to solve. What do you have to lose?
