External SSD and G05

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hello,

I did some tests at the dealership with a 2TB SSD disk. It is formatted in FAT-32 and contains a folder with MP3s and a folder with FLACs.

On an X3 G01, the SSD connected in USB-A was immediately recognized, but only the MP3 files were visible and readable.

On an 8 Series (and according to the seller, the same multimedia system as the X5 G05), the SSD disk was not seen by the multimedia system, neither in USB-A, nor in USB-C. However, the disc was powered by the two USB sockets.

How surprising that the G01 can power and read this SSD and not the G05, does anyone have an explanation? Should the disk be formatted in XFAT or other for the G05?

The seller asked the importer the question but received no answer.

Thank you in advance for your help.

You said you tried both USB ports, does the SSD have an adapter or did you use a different cord for each? If so it could be the way the wire is made if not to spec.... Power is the same for any and all USB connections model so you will always have power.

Mine reads a USB micro stick just fine for MP3s, I have not tried FLACs. Maybe those who have tried will provide more input on this.

It is a Samsung T5 https://www.samsung.com/us/computing...-mu-pa2t0b-am/

no need for an adapter
no need for power supply
The SSD disk behaves like a USB stick.

Once again, no problem to read it on a G03!
