Yep - they are. Still just a hassle for me. They have to dry it out with heaters, all while I can't use my A/C until it's fixed. They can't repair it until the A/C is fixed either, then all the hassle of re-texturing and painting - just very annoying.
Sounds like it, hopefully it will all be done soon

Getting into flight simulators seems like a worthwhile experience. You're learning something new, interesting, and set in reality. There is a learning curve, so to overcome it you must learn some history (especially with WW2 planes), some physics, and some theory of flight mechanics, which in itself is incredibly gratifying and rewarding.

All together it adds-up to a very meaningful entertainment (actually more like a a hobby at this stage), and also a way to extend one's gaming habits into later years, by making it more than about instant gratification and twitch reflexes (which also fade with age). Therefore I am personally surprised that flight-sims is such a dying genre nowadays, I personally blame those librul millennials with attention span of a gnat.

With the new reality of WFH for the first time, I am giving serious thought to spinning up a VPN client on a device at home rather than being limited to just one computer. The [wonked] NAS could do the task. Doing research, spending up for a newer and higher-grade Synology NAS gets features like being able to run Intel-based Docker images and a few other things that the current one couldn't do even before it was broken.

A second idea that I had was to just build my own Linux-based NAS on a Raspberry Pi or something. I really don't need the Linux hand-holding that the Synology provides, but it is a convenient system/UI and add-on packages...when it works.

The third option is to spin up the VPN on a spare Pi, and "rent" storage on Amazon to build my own NAS.

As much as I'd like to spin up a full VMware ESXi host, I really don't need that horsepower or load on the electric meter.

Lots to think about while I am at home for COVID-geddon (my invented term).....
I was going to go with a Synology, ended up going the rPi route because it was cheaper. Do wish I went with the Synology though, the idea of having basically a plug-and-play and less ugly setup is really appealing; main reason other than price for the rPi was that I needed two partitions, one for HFS (apple backups) and other NTFS for general file storage. Heard Synology's cheaper units won't let you do that but also haven't really confirmed for myself either.

Had a similar issue last summer. Coil was in right, just not the right type for this system. Ruined the bathroom ceiling downstairs. The HVAC company covered all the cost for repairs to the HVAC system, but my ceiling was supposed to get repaired as we were redoing the whole bathroom. But now that whole plan is on hold until this virus mess clears up.

I'm running Time Machine against a 216j (cheapest 2016? model), and it generally works acceptably. There are all kinds of general warnings about trying to run Time Machine against non-Apple network storage, but the only headaches are when it loses touch with a backup and asks to create a new one from scratch. I did a full Macbook Pro restore from the Synology, so I'm confident that it is working. IIRC, it builds a virtual HFS file system on the NAS as a big file for Time Machine to use, so you don't need raw partitions.....

I feel like crap from watching so much tv the last 2 days. Binged all the Better Call Saul. Going to be even more boring this week since they are shutting down all restaurants and bars starting at 9 tonight. Casinos and all museums closed too.

Literally those same two companies sent me emails yesterday and I thought the same thing. I do not even know how I got onto their mailing list.

It's shameless advertising from them. Millions of people were reminded of their existence by the email. Even if they get a handful of customers from it the email was worth it.

Just saw an article about buying online or online gift cards for your local restaurants and/or retailers to help them over the next couple weeks as they slow down or shut down. Going to do a little gift card shopping in anticipation of things opening up next month.

Also got an email from grub hub that they are waving fees in order to support local restaurants and matching all promotions that local independent restaurants put out.

If you can try to support businesses over the next few weeks as the local and general economy can't sustain a prolonged shutdown.

ServePro came to cut away the wet drywall (wetwall?) and have dryers going - they said the floor is screwed, and probably needs replacing within a 4 foot radius of each pillar, but because they overlap that's about a 14x8 foot section.

I hope mine isn't put on hold because of the virus

Ouch. Mine isn't nearly that drastic. Just a 2'x2' hole in the ceiling, which if I wasn't such a lazy slug, I'd patch temporarily. Otherwise the bathroom is perfectly functional.

The walls in here are textured, so even if they replaced the drywall, they have to texture and paint it.

I say if they replaced the drywall - when. They've hacked away the drywall from both pillars, which have rounded corners, so they have a pile to replace and texture and pain and... ugh.

Building a mezzanine in the pole barn at the cabin, to expand my storage capacity. There's an old maxim that says "your shit always expands to fit the space you've got to store it in." I've never been able to prove it wrong. I've been acquiring some parts for a potential project...or to continue to fulfill my role as a keeper of the flame for a couple of old Ford motor platforms. These are blocks and heads and reciprocating assembly parts, so they're heavy. Some other, lighter stuff, and some seasonal things, will be relocated to the mezzanine to make room for some beefy metal racks I have ready to set up.

I'm a natural organizer and curator, so it's deeply satisfying.

I need to install 1 or 2 additional motion sensors for the alarm system, since the mezzanine will obscure the view of the current ones mounted in the ceiling. Have a friend who owns a commercial building management and alarm company, so he'll be up in a couple of weekends to make that happen. There may be beer drunk and steaks grilled and various meats smoked. Just a hunch.

Also building a cooled and ventilated sound-proof enclosure for the air compressor. I enjoy the calm and quiet of wrenching with some jazz or blues playing in the background; having it abruptly pierced every hour or half-hour by an air compressor run cycle is getting tiresome.

Life is good, virus and all.

On a funny note, I was at an Irish pub in MA a few weeks ago (goooood fish and chips) and they had a trivia contest going on. There were several teams, but the two I remember were called "Corona Virus and a Lyme Disease" and "Bi-Curious George and the Case of the Hidden Banana."
