Lexus Hybrid (438 HP)
This thing is awesome. One of the first outstanding ideas that Lexus has originated themselves. However the price really combats the purpouse of saving money on gas.

Why did you overprice the car by more than 20k? If you really think Lexus LS460 is just jazzed up camry, your a dumbass. (seriously). This "jazzed up camry" has more HP and TQ than BMW 750, and with better looking exterior/interior design. I can tell you by real life experience that LS460 is very nice car. My cousin and relatives own both LS460 and BMW 750, and both are Equally very nice cars. BMW fanboy like you, whos in denial and utterly biased, give bad reputation to BMW community... |

I agree with you. The new LS is really a tech/luxury marvel. My parents left BMW after 3 super problematic cars and bought an 2001 LS. The car is amazingly comfortable...all controls are well thought out. I've driven it a few times, and it's suprisingly nimble and FAST for a car that size. The transmission is quite well sorted...it doesn't hunt and peck like so many autos. If I were in the market for a luxobarge, the LS would be the one I'd go home with.

My father had an 05 LS. It drove like a big floaty barge. He regretted buying it and missed the way his 7 series handled.

You guys should have been at the last Taste of Lexus event. You would have been able to drive all of these cars (plus the other 2007 models), as well as their competition.
In short - the only Lexus that was fun to drive was the IS350. Longer version - the G450h is indeed quite fast (felt like a mid-5s 0-60 car), but it was no fun to drive. Does it have a CVT? It seemed like it. Also, on our mostly-WOT run through the track, we got something like 6mpg. The MB S-class was the best in the luxobarge category, though the LS was gorgeous and nice to sit in (they also had a 750i). Those cars seem very big and heavy, though, and none of them were any fun to drive. Better suited as limos. The ES is about as close as Lexus gets to Camry. It seemed quite similar, has FWD and skinny tires. The SC was way slower and less fun than I expected. The IS350 was better than I remembered from previous test drives of the 2006 version. Very fun to drive IMO, and steering and handling felt more solid than I remembered. The IS250, OTOH, was more sedate than expected.

gimme a break, that lexus although very nice inside, handles like hell and has no personality on the road. and the front end does look like a camry and the back looks like an overfed 7 series.

If I wanted to get a big car, it would definitely be a Lexus LS. Not only are they better designed, built, more reliable and offer more features, they are CHEAPER than their german counterparts.
A big car should be good at pampering the passengers- not just satisfying the chauffeur. Lexus is the only one that gets this part right.

But I think you don't understand the real reason people buy such cars. In 95% of the cases, it's status. And as far as status goes, Lexus is at the bottom of the rung (we're not discussing technical merits here). On top of this, the greatest percentage of these barges are self-driven, not chauffeur-driven. In this category, I understand the S class and 7 series score much better than the Lexus. And if it were my money, I'd get an S8. |
