X5 50i - Anybody with a JB4?

Hello

New to the forums.

I picked up a '19 x5 xdrive 50i M Sport package, exec, luxury, and had a few other additions. Came with the M sport exhaust and 742m rims with new contact 6 315's in the rear which I love. Lots of power for me and the kids love it, though they're only 3 1/2 years old

About 37k miles, with extended warranty.

I have little twins, so I don't want to do much to the car. I did order some BMC filters from rg sports and will do the charcoal delete while in there. Changed out the grills to gloss black since it was chrome.

My question is, are there any 50i owners running the JB4? I've used JB4 in my other cars before, but I want to buy and install the JB4 without any issues just using Map 1 and call it a day. Would this be okay with no issues all stock with just air filters? Enough additional power I will notice?

Thanks for any suggestions

I had one on my 2021 X7 M50i and have since moved it over to my 2020 X5M. There's definitely a noticeable increase in power. I run Map 2 but it runs great on either map or you can create your own. Both vehicles totally stock.

Thanks, after talking to BMS, I went ahead again with the JB4.

Sounds good Man.
How do you like the engine performance in stock form?
I absolutely love mine but would like to throw some more wood on that fire.

I love the sound but it feels slow (coming from a Rivian, and we also have a tesla) so I expected that. Hoping the tune really wakes it up!

It will wake it up but it's never going to have the feel and power band of the X5M. My M50i always felt like it started to run out of steam after the first couple of gear changes and higher rpm band. That was even with the JB4. The X5M feels like it will rev to the moon and beg for more. I'm guessing a lot of it has to do with the different manifold/downpipe configuration and turbos.

Mine is the M60, which has the same engine as the X5M - so hoping that the JB4 will essentially make it pull just as hard. We shall see!

Yeah, the S68 should be interesting to experiment with. Keep us posted on the outcome.

The X5M was also tuned from the factory with valve timing that favored high end performance that explains what you describe. The delayed intake valve closure that yields excellent top end also moves the peak torque to the right.
Here is Burger Motorsports initial JB4 results with various fuels for the all new S68 V8 in the M60i which are most impressive. Over 100HP and 130TQ gain on 93 octane. 600HP at the wheel is like 700 flywheel.
This should pull like a bitch all the way through on 93 and a mad man with a tank of E30.

Just did the install! I'm exhausted so won't have a full review until tomorrow. Initial impressions are this thing rips! My only concern is that I did not do the EWG connections (it said optional) because I couldn't get the inlet pipes off the turbos. Curious how much of a difference that makes.

You most likely won't need them unless things are drastically different than the N63 and S63. In fact, they were actually more troublesome with throwing codes on the older models. Best way is just to do some runs in 4th gear 2000 - redline and have the app logging. I find the freeway entrances work best for this. That will tell you everything you need to know about boost and timing. If it's making the boost targets, there's no need for the EWG.

I reached out to BMS to see if the S63 unit I have is compatible with the S68 and they said it's a totally different unit which I found interesting. The older ones, you could just change the firmware and go. I got the bench unlocker from Mission last week so I'm likely going full tune and sell the JB4 on mine.

Full ECM flash tune is going to be a monster for sure. Guys in the business are calling the S68 a tuners dream with the fully forged, robust rotating assembly.
Can't wait to see the before and after dyno on this one.
Go for it Man.

I just did a quick 0-60 and returned a 3.77. I can't figure out how to get the damn turbos to spool on the line. It's also HOT and IAT's are rough.

I live just south of you. This air is absolutley terrible for performance, crazy hot and humid. A 3.77 sounds damn good under these conditions.
I'm guessing that your vehicle is pulling a ton of timing.

I'm going to try to get down to bradenton 1/4 mile thursday the 31st. Very interested to see what it'll run!

Sounds good.
Get a baseline run on 0 map and then Map 2 for the delta which will give you the answers you are looking for. Your 0-60 seems fine in that air with a 1.25% up hill slope, both working against you. Your IATs are likely well above ambient too. Run it in the reverse direction on a 55* night in January and you would see a lower # as I am sure you know.

SUVs unfortunately hit a brick wall of air after the 1st 1/8th mile.
Thanks much for posting this initial info!

That would have been my guess. Waaaaay to hot for good #s.
I drag raced a Whippled 2004 SVT Cobra years ago and would see a sig reduction in performance at those IATs. My supercharged 2017 Z06 cut back big time on power in that kind of air also.
These M60is on a JB4 will be a ball to drive this winter when we get down into the 50s and 60s.

Just installed the jb4 on my 50i . Staying on Map 1 and could definitely feel the difference. What app are you using to mock up a 0-60 time for fun?
