G05 Boot (Trunk) randomly opens on its own

Anyone experienced the boot (Trunk) opening of its own accord when parked? Woke up this morning to find the boot open by about a foot. I know it wasn't a key mishap as only use the digital key card. Very weird and slightly disconcerting.

prizos,

I gasped when I read this. Over in the G01 Forum (where I belong, as owner of an X3 M40i), this has happened to more than several of us, and not key-related. Including yours truly.

Oh boy...

I've had an X3 loaner for a couple months now and this has happened twice. My coworker also owns a new X3 and I've pulled into our parking lot a couple times to find his hatch open - He said its happened a few times before.

Check in the owners manual. This is called "Predictive Comfort Access". It uses AI to determine when it thinks you should be loading the trunk of your vehicle and opens it in anticipation. It sees when you normally open the hatch and uses an advanced algorithmic method to predict future opens. It also checks the weather widget to ensure it is raining or there is poor weather so your vehicle gets an interior cleaning as part of the process. I kid... sorry to hear about this, it has to be super frustrating! Does anyone has the regular key in close proximity to the vehicle and maybe an animal is triggering the kick-open function?

Oh dear ...

I'm glad i'm not on my own then. I didn't have the key with me at the time just the digital card so no idea what could have caused it. It has not re-occurred since but will report back if it does (and will take it back to BMW to investigate).

Could it possibly be related to the kick to open feature? Is the car parked outside, key close enough to work, animal run under the sensor? Totally guessing, obviously, but the kick to open on our 340 is incredibly sensitive. Walk behind the car in the garage and the trunk opens almost every time. I ordered the hitch on my X5, so that won't be an issue!
