Something to think about. I don’t know anything about the OP’s accidents. He may have been sitting at a stop light both times. On the other hand if you have repeating accidents it might be time to reevaluate your driving style. A friend who has been rear ended several times tailgates aggressively. When you have a car with excellent brakes and tailgate you might be able to avoid hitting the guy in front of you but the guy behind you with bad brakes a worn tires is probably going to nail you. Increasing your following distance can go a long way to avoid getting rear ended.

All the German SUVs in this segment are relatively safe but also expensive to repair. I'd also argue they mostly drive the same too. The X5 is the best in class if you aren't obsessed with the vehicle being particularly "fun" to drive. Cayenne is better in that area but is significantly more expensive especially to lease.

Purchased a 2021 X6M-40i as the replacement
Well after looking at a lot of vehicles that were very nice but in my opinion behind in technology. I settled on another BMW....
actually looked at going back to the 7 Series but not enough discounts on them. Also no inventory. But I didn't buy the X5-40i.... I went for the X6M 40i.... Hope that its a nice vehicle. This one just arrived at the dealer. Had a Build date of 12/11/2020 Exterior Color Carbon Black Metallic Interior Color Cognac Included Packages & Options • M Sport Package o M Sport Exhaust System o Wheels: 20" x 9" M Star-Spoke Bi-Color o Adaptive M Suspension o Show All Package Items • Premium Package o Remote Engine Start o 4-Zone Automatic Climate Control o Head-Up Display o Show All Package Items • Parking Assistance Package o Parking Assistant Plus o Drive Recorder o Active Park Distance Control o Show All Package Items Included Options • Illuminated Kidney Grille • Front & Rear Heated Seats • Heated Front Seats Armrests & Steering Wheel The St. Louis area dealer was very aggressive and easy to deal with and basically gave me a very similar deal discount wise to what they did in November 2019. The only additions to the order are winter mats and 20% tinting of the windows to match the rear window tint. |

2nd time Was stopped with turn signal on waiting for oncoming traffic to pass before turning. Drivers were cited both times for inattentive driving and following too closely. the most recent one admitted to the officer that he had been looking at his cell phone. |

After 7 pages of debates haha glad to hear you've got something you wanted
Congrats on the order! I love the 7 series as well, but the loss of value as you walk out the dealership hurts. That said, if you love a car, you love a car and shouldn't care about its residual. Sorry you couldn't get a discount for it enough to make it a good buy for you. Have fun with the X6! |

I think it might be in the forum somewhere, but the rear blinker color has been mentioned previously. What wasn't indicated in the R&T data was their data pool - amber tailights and signals tend to be on European cars, with a whole different Universe of driver training, highways and regulations. Amber signals may indeed reduce rear collisions, but really not possible to validate unless you use the same car on the same highways with the same drivers, and different colored lights. Just a for instance, in Europe obtaining a license requires in general the outlay of several hundred to several thousand dollars, passing comprehensive written and practical tests through a driving school, and some demonstrated level of experience. It could be argued that European drivers consequently have a higher level of training than Americans, and in my experience and opinion, many of them are in fact better drivers (in spite of the long-standing jokes: Spain - "Iron Matadors," Italy - "My car means nothing to me, and yours means less."). Americans die on the highway at more than twice the rate of Europeans. Not so funny. So not meant as a critique of any of the posters (I've seen more than one less than peer-reviewed "study" referencing taillights and safety), but a study just saying amber taillights result in fewer accidents means nothing statistically, in isolation. Rant off.

the same could be said about amber indicators or reflectors in the front corners of vehicles. in EU or ROW there are very few regions that utilize an amber reflector like NAR and they do not have an increase in t-bone or frontal collision. i think the article is more click-bait than anything credible. i would chalk it up to more distracted drivers / poor habits / poor training. in a world of many screens the one neglected the most is the windscreen.

Here is one study from 2008. In this one it didn't show an association between color and accidents while the previous one did. https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.do...les/811050.pdf Edit: Here is an NHTSA study from the following year showing a 5.3% reduction in accidents with amber rear turn signals. https://crashstats.nhtsa.dot.gov/Api...ication/811115

It was just a joke cause I'm just ruffled that it took this long to get the anti-dazzle legislation moving. As such, I take a jab at the NHTSA wherever possible.

Last I saw they never took the vote in October like they were scheduled to. Not sure what their issue is with the anti-dazzle.

They looked into HIDs some 20 years ago and the dug their heels in like a pack of asses in all matters of headlight/taillight technological advancements. Really highlights the need for new blood in the agency but that's a political discussion for another forum. For now, coding will have to do
