2019 RRS V8 to X5m?
I currently have a '19 Range Rover Sport Supercharged V8 that has been my favorite vehicle I've ever had. The lease will be up in 6 months so I'm weighing my options.
IMG_0583 A X5m is on the top of my list. My biggest concern is the ride quality and honestly these YouTube reviews are not helping. I can handle a rough ride back and forth to work, but my concern is how it is as a family hauler and road trips? My RRS is on 22"s, but it's also on air suspension. Obviously I could go the RSQ8 route, but I personally don't think it looks as good. Thoughts from those that have gone on long road trips? Anyone switched from an RRS to the X5M? Thanks for advance.

The X6M is on all of the time. IMO the rides very sporty and very rough in comparison. If you spend 50% of the time with your family and the other 50% without and your used to the RR, this might not be the best vehicle for you.
I enjoy the rough and sportier ride in my X6M more than my last GLE63, and my passengers have commented on their experience as either aggressive, sporty, or WTF this is rough for a SUV...no ones yet said it was like riding on a cloud like in the RR or GLE's. |

Going from a RRS on air to X5MC is going to be a drastic change on all fronts. Will the ride quality be acceptable will depend on where you live and how are the road conditions. Outside of NYC my car is fine on family road trips but my daily commute in and out of NYC I am constantly reminded just how stiff this thing rides. Honestly think BMW screwed up the F95 using steel springs all around. The older F85 at-least has air suspension in the rear and rode better. Porsche, Audi and Mercedes all put air on their top dog suv. Nice ride height and comfortable handling while still being able to handle. No reason why someone paying 120k+ should have to choose between good ride quality or handling.

Thank you both for the honest feedback. I do wonder why BMW didn't go with air suspension or at a minimum a few clicks down on the softness scale. As Alan mentioned Porsche/Audi do use air and when done right it can be very potent. Seems like it would fix the (2) major concerns with the X5M, ride height and firmness. Thank you again guys.

I agree with Alan. If you're coming from the RRS on air suspension to the X5M, it's going to feel like a huge difference. My longest road trip so far has been from South Carolina to Florida when I took Performance Center Delivery on this car. I felt the ride was comfortable but not harsh like how most of the youtube reviews mention. I also have Michelin tires which seem to have a better ride than the Pirellis. I would recommend test driving the X5M and ask your dealer if you can drive it around for a day so that can see for yourself. Some dealers, not all will let you have it for a day.
Good luck! |

Did the exact same move. I came from a 2018 corris gray rrs scv8 dynamic to x5m. Ride is def more comfortable in the rrs, and IMO I love the look of the rrs better than the x5m. That being said , you can’t beat the handling and speed of the x5m. The rrs is a boat compared to it.

You look at Cayenne Turbo? It's on air suspension, more sporty then X5M in sport plus mode more comfortable in comfort mode
Other option new GLE63 also air suspension and apparently has a better ride quality not as sporty as X5M

The X5M is a great car but like others have said, it is a drastic change from a RRS with Air Suspension. Definitely going to require a good test drive, and maybe bring the family too and see what they think when riding in the car and whether it will suffice for daily driving. At the end of the day, ride comfort is subjective, so it will be you and your passengers'/family's decision on whether the X5M is the right move for you. If the X5M is a no go, the Cayenne Turbo, RSQ8 and GLE63 all offer air suspension and softer rides or you could also get another Rover.
Good luck!

I left a 2019 RRS Dynamic, it was my dream vehicle. Agree with all the comments on the ride difference. That being said, the cabin, the tech, the speed and handling are lightyears ahead in the X5MC. It feels like a sports car.

If the firm ride is a concern, you might also want to look at the X5 M50i. It can be ordered with air suspension and has enough performance (523 hp) for most people. If you like your V8 RR Sport, you will love the X5 M50i.

You can also chip it and get much more hp tq with a less harsher ride vs x5m.

I’m 7 months into my F95 ownership and, candidly, I don’t really share the same complaints about ride quality. I absolutely love the ride - firm, but compliant. The conditions of the roads around me are generally pretty good compared to the Northeast or Midwest, so perhaps that’s the reason for differences in perspective. My wife had a 2017 RRS V8 Dynamic for a few years and while we both like the looks, exhaust note and the straight line speed, it is not a driver’s car in my opinion (i.e. transmission, handling, body roll) which is why I much prefer the BMW. Just to say it, you should drive the F95 for yourself before making any decision. |

Anyone in Ma with an XM that can comment on the ride quality
I am in loaded G05 40 and looking to upgrade to the XM my only concern is if the ride will be to stiff for a DD When I build out a loaded M50i it is only about 7k less then the loaded XM I would love to have a real M just don't want to hate the ride over these roads every day |

Agreed, I would take a look at M50i and you can order it with air suspension, compromise but might be best option if you prefer the G05.

It did on my F97 comp, and I'm counting on it again on my newly ordered F95. MSS Springs will be here before the car. Test drive demonstrated, stock vs stock, the F95 already starts with a more compliant ride than the F97 I had. I can't imagine an F95 being unbearable with these springs.

I'm curious if anyone has driven an RSQ8 with air suspension... I wanna get into one of the super SUVs next, but I am also one to worry about ride comfort as it will be a family hauler with two toddlers. Everything I've read is the X5M is quite rough... wish it had the 40i and M50i air suspension.
