I shopped around alot. Look at the Q7, Q8, RR Sport, MB GLE and in the end the X6 was just better to drive.

Try a 2021 x6

I would guess in 6 months or so things will calm down but right now it is very hot.

It could be because it is new or maybe just that good but I have seen a number of folks who were also looking at an X5, or even an X5 owner, being blown away by the GV80. It will be interesting to come back to this thread in a few years and see how things turned out.
Right, whether is a Genesis, Audi, Merc, doesn't really matter, its a brand new offering and is therefore getting attention by the press/media and as soon as some hear it cannot be had, due to the pent up demand, they "have to have it". Like you and I both said, this will seek its own level in time and calm down.

Personally, I do hope it gives BMW a run for its money as its competition that creates improvement.

That is a very clear and succinct way of looking at this topic on many levels.

I don't know if any of the other forums for the RR, Cayenne, GLE, etc... has this in-depth discussion of the GV80 but we can say the topic has been thoroughly discussed by the BMW brethren.
Zero on Rennlist 9Y0, although I have seen RR, BMW and Audi discussed heavily (not much of anything on the GLE either).

At least now the OP knows more information on what to expect from the GV80. If he wants to spend $5k-$10k over MSRP (GV80) or $~10k below MSRP (X5) is a personal financial decision.

This is starting to sound like the Kia Telluride situation.

Put the press/media on to something and it will sell. Most people are followers. Us BMW people like to make up our own mind

Understand that the preference is SUV but OP also mentioned the 5 series...

Have you considered a sport wagon? Both the RS6 Avant and E63 Wagon are stealthy road rippers that can haul the equivalent amount passengers and cargo. A6 Avant or E450 if you don't want the performance. Less commanding view of the road, but much better driving dynamics and MPG.

I almost bought a Telluride SX. Thankfully it was 5k over so I quickly passed. Drove the GV80 back to back with the X5. Great looking and solid fit and finish. No comparison in driving dynamics and handling though. Half the instrument cluster was digital and half was a regular tach. Also the rear doors didn’t have opening/locking sensors which I thought was unusual. Came down to pricing for me. Even if I could get the GV at MSRP, I ended up getting over 10k off the X5.

I was thinking the same thing. I was astounded at how fast they moved and how much over MSRP people were paying. Sheer stupidity in my opinion.

Personally I would be looking at:

Audi Q8
Jaguar F-Pace (2021 refresh) - smaller but not by a ton
BMW X5
Acura MDX (2022 redesign due in early Feb)
Lexus RX (not my fave but solid and reliable)
Mercedes Benz GLE

I drive a Lincoln Navigator currently ... like it a lot but not driving dynamics like the X5. Worth looking at the redesigned Escalade as well I suppose. Again, doesn't seem to be the type of vehicle you're looking for overall.

Maybe an Audi A6 Allroad is worth a look? MB All-Terrain?

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but we’re going to look at an SQ7 in the next week. There’s a good chance we’ll be placing an order for the wife if we like it.

Drove the Audi Q8 yesterday and was not impressed with the fit and feel. The car felt like it sat lower to the ground more like a car versus an SUV. Additionally did not like the way that the steering wheel did not till further down. It's a nice vehicle but it's definitely not a X5.

My rental car has been in 2020 Nissan armada. So I decided to drive the equivalent in the infinity. I don't think that's for me too big and bulky and the electronics have not really been updated.

The X5 electronics definitely are better than anything I've seen. I'm not a Mercedes fan so I will not even test drive their vehicle.
I like the cockpit style of the X5 Dash. Does any other manufacture have anything similar to that?

The previous Audi Q7 was very intuitive like the X5's with plenty of knobs buttons and shortcut keys, but they replaced it with the Q8's all touch interior, and new GLE interior is great but looks like its off your list.

Try out a Genesis GV80 or maybe even if you don't mind a FWD based vehicle, the Mazda CX-9 is a great alternative and you can save some cash too and still have a great interior. Honestly sounds like you should just get another X5, good luck with the search.

I looked up the gv80 online..thank god it isn't available in the UK.... No contest with the vastly superior looking x5 imo.

See, this is it, this happened to me many years ago...once you own/drive a BMW, you compare everything else to it and they just don't stack up. If you really feel you have been "snake bitten" in the X5 and for that reason alone you need to find a diff car, you're going to have to stop making the comparisons Try wearing a gold cornicello and a string of garlic around your neck for a while and then go get another X5

Exactly, we had a 2018 RX350 and a '21 X5 at the same time. The RX350 is a tin can compared to the BMW with all kinds of weird vibrations transmitted through the steering wheel, barely acceptable power, totally boring, confounding electronics, and that awful light weight feel that any Asian vehicle I have ever driven seems to have. Pay less, get less.

I went for the Cayenne over the G05. Be prepared to spend a lot on options and wait for 4-6 months for your order (also, base Cayenne not worth it). I didn't notice anyone recommending the Lincoln Aviator, looks good and same price range as the X5, I have not driven one but may be worth a test drive. Otherwise, go back with what you were happy in, and hope another yinzer doesn't hit it.

We had a reasonably optioned 2019 base Cayenne. The vehicle was absolutely not worth its 85K MSRP. Typical Porsche BS, everything is a painfully priced option pushing it into the "it ain't worth it category".

I wound up in the X5 coming from a Cayenne s and really miss the Porsche. The BMW has it beat with technology but the cayenne is much more of a driver's car. I want hesitate to go back in the future. Take this with a grain of salt because if you're considering the American makes then performance and driver feel is probably not high on your list of qualifications. I've driven a lot of the Lexus brand SUVs throughout the years and really dislike them, my wife however really likes them. The LX is the only one I could see myself in but it's a boat/ luxury vehicle.

There is a huge difference between the base Cayenne and the "S".

It is, I have $32,000 in options on my E Hybrid. I don't feel like they were a waste of money, and have it optioned exactly how I want it. I really dislike how BMW went away from having a lot of things as individual options, and went the Lexus route with option bundles. I know that saves money for BMW, but it forces options a person may not want. For example, on my '18 G01, ACC was a stand alone option, same as the '19 G05, now you have to option all driver's assist features, which I do not want (they don't always work as expected, and end up being annoying and turned off, wasted money and unnecessary added complexity). Same thing they did with DHP between the F15 and G05, no longer allowing it as an option of the 6 cylinder. So, while Porsche charges out the nose for things other makes have standard, I like the personalization of it. I will, of course, test drive and look at BMW whenever I need to replace my Cayenne, but the volume over luxury angle they seem to be doing is off putting (caveat, if they put that M4/iX grill on everything, I am out until a design change happens).

I agree, in the 911 the stripped down base is very desirable. But everything else in the Porsche brand you really need to start with the s and work your way up if you want more. In my opinion it's kind of opposite of BMW because I wouldn't want a v motor made by them.
