50e check engine light: fuel rail error in EV mode
After 200 miles my 50e also had check engine light on… however it seems not the hybrid battery coolant issue, but fuel rail sensor. This is kind of weird - the whole trip was in EV mode without engine turning on for 20+ miles. Suddenly a message on dashboard shows “electric mode not possible due to system issue” and CEL comes on, car goes into hybrid mode. After a few minutes, I tried to go into electric mode again and it seems possible again, however the CEL is still on. I had a $25 Amazon scanner and got the error code, and it is the only error message. Weird. Fuel rail error thrown in EV mode.

I guess it is just some random false error code thrown; Idk why gas engine code is thrown when the engine was not even running when car was driving in ev mode. Will take to dealer service dept if it does not disappeared within next day or two. |

Looks like a fuel rail pressure sensor error, and I'm guessing the rail and fuel system is pressurized even when running in EV mode. Otherwise the transition to hybrid would be bad.

Thanks for the explanation, that sounds like making senses. I googled the error code and seems like no one else has mentioned or experiences this on modern bmw, phev or not; only discussion was on E-series M3
