I know some well-healed people who are not "car guys" and get nice mid-priced transportation cars and keep them for years. I know other people who don't have big incomes but choose to spend what they do have on the latest and greatest cars. Most of them at least wait until their lease is up before switching, but not always. They just want something different and live under the "life's too short to not have that next shiny thing" philosophy. It probably costs $10 to 30k to switch cars. Plus, car payments are much higher when you switch often because you are always at the highest point of the depreciation curve. Over the years, that adds up to a lot of money to drive the very latest all the time. For these guys, it's worth it. |

No, only a few small cosmetic items can be coded since BMW moved to secure coding.

To answer someone else’s question- EV is smooth and effortless. But this b58 and 8 speed is too! Comfort needs a settling to delete ASS completely and remembered on start up. |

1. Agree, although "hate" is a little strong so far, it is buggy and I had issues. 2. It was warm (upper 80s) here Saturday, and the start/stop didn't seem to be an issue with HVAC. I think it's much better than it was on earlier cars. Our car is an sDrive 40i (no hybrid stuff). 3. This "feature" is even worse on my M car. I think it's just what they do for quick engine warm-up. I'm not an SUV lover, but this car is really nice and I'm enjoying it so far. Quote:
As for the 20 previous cars that the OP has gone through... I too belong to the club of wasteful spending on massive depreciation in too short of a time. COWSOMDITST I have a spreadsheet (that I need to update) that shows that I keep cars on average, 13 months. That is probably down to 12 now. It numbers in the mid-fifties, I think, of total cars owned. I don't count motorcycles or the wife's cars, just mine. A few outliers skewed the average-I had a Corvette that I kept for 10 years, a couple of BMWs that didn't make it past 2 months, etc. I traded in my 8-month old (from new) M550i on the G05.

It's not clearly documented, but the radar sensors and cameras would appear to read the environment and make predicative start/stop decisions based on changing lights/signs/moving cars. For example, at a stop light, the engine will start the very nanosecond the cars in front or beside you start to move forward instead of waiting for you to put your foot on the gas. Another example is it reads that you're stopping at a stop sign, and therefore will not shut off the engine. Same thing when creeping along a metering lane on a freeway onramp. My wife's Lexus (NX350) is like you describe... it shuts off overzealously at any and all stops, and the engine only turns back on AFTER you put your foot on the gas which then takes a full second for the engine to come back to live to move the car forward... extremely annoying, but there's a button to turn it off. |

Hi- Yes, it had the driver’s assistant pro, heads up, parking pro. It’s important to test drive it and know it can’t be coded off (Turtle confirmed for me). The better smoother drive is the IX but it lacks all the practical avenues the x5 affords. More range, better tailgate and livability. I happen to think the LCI looks better on the non Msport too. Id8 just feels more at home on the IX. |

Sort of a side note and good to know information: The reason why BMW is moving away from all the buttons and integrating everything into a touchscreen via iDrive8 is because behind every button (or button array) is a legacy circuit board that communicates the button inputs back to the ECU. The factories that make these various legacy circuit boards are all old and failing, resulting in supply chain disruptions. It's unfortunate, but this is how things will move forward. I've seen lots of POV driving videos of the LCI and I see them fumbling with the new iD8 touchscreen UI trying to get to feature that used to be a finger press away. I think the key to iD8 is going to be getting comfortable with using the voice commands. If iD8 is anything like iD7 in this regard, accessing a feature is always a voice command away. They even got rid of the distance control buttons on the steering wheel for adaptive cruise control... UGH! |

BMW has three levels if seats in the X5 Sport (Standard) Multi-Contour (Offers more adjustability) Luxury (Adds ventilation and massage) Note the luxury seats can vary if massage is included or not. I do not care for the ventilation or massage. Both make the seat harder/less comfortable for me. I really like the multi-contour when you can get them as-is. BMW messes around and sometimes you cannot get them plain. Sport seats really aren't bad. Still pretty adjustable but not as good as the multi-contour. All my own experiences obviously. |

Whats the rationale behind changing same model from pre lci to lci within 2 years? Is car really that cheap in that part of the world? Lol

Are you 100% sure? That's terrible to hear. I really do not like auto start stop. It would impact a new purchase. It seems like with m cars you can still do it. I wonder with the x5m if you can turn it off or not.

Just curious, do you lose money on depreciation everytime? I am not asking for numbers just curious how that works.

Who cares if the OP switches cars frequently. Even if he switches ever 2 months, good for him!
People spend and prioritize money on all sorts of “nonesense”. My Nonsense is watches and I even admit it’s pretty nuts for an item that does nothing lol. Keep trading OP and I look forward to hear your future impressions!
