Display Key for 2021 X5 45e?

Picked up my 2021 X5 45e a couple of days ago. Disappointed that the display key was not included. Is the display key available for purchase for this model? Thanks.

Lot of us didn't order the display key because it takes away one of the two key fobs. Display key is also bulky, needs charge, and novelty wares off pretty quickly. App can do many of the stuffs. Therefore in hindsight it might be a good thing that you don't have one

On some models, the display key can enable you to move the vehicle out of say a tight parking space without having to be in the vehicle. I was wondering if it was even available for the X5. On some models of BMW, it used to be that the computer couldn't recognize more than two fobs. On some others, you could have a second module installed that would let it recognize an additional two. The X5 with the digital keys, can handle more of those in addition to the fobs, but don't know if it could handle two 'normal' fobs and a display key as well.

I don't think BMW is capable of summon mode which is a Tesla thing.

Ordering a display key takes away one of the key fobs in Canada. After learning this, I cancelled my display key order. Instead, I got two regular key fobs with a digital key (aka credit card key).

The BMW Connected Drive application is more than enough for me:
I could see the car surrendering,
I could set the climitizing,
I could remote start,
I could check various status,
I can send destination to car navigation,

No, G05/G06/G07 do not have that function. Lots of people assume(d) that Display Key would be what would enable it, but no. Thus, the Display Key is almost truly useless on this model and has lots of negatives to boot (size, need to charge regularly). The OP is lucky that Display Key is not stock in NA as in some other countries it is/was included stock, reducing the number of included usable fobs to just 1. It is/was possible to order it with the car order and I would guess afterwards as well, so if one has $600 or so to burn on something almost completely useless, worth a chat with the dealer's parts department.

I keep using present/past tense because BMW took a lot of options away in MY2021 and I have no interest in keeping track of random BMW marketing caprices by year.

UPDATE: researching more, it looks like Display Key was never orderable with G05 in US, but definitely was in Canada. Apparently you can try to buy it in another market and it can be made to work on a US-spec car. But again ... really doesn't seem to be worth any hassle.

I don't know if this function works on the X5, but BMW does support this on some models...

I did not see the display key as an option in the USA, but I may have missed it.

I remember Mr. Bond driving his BMW with a remote at the back seat

Also, Ethan Hunt as well...

As already stated, G05/G06/G07 does not do this, regardless Mr. Bond's marketing shenanigans.

I was greatly disappointed when I received my display key because it did not enable me to remote control park the X5. My sales guy basically told me that it is only offered in the 5 and 7 series. The SUV's may be too tall in size to utilize the feature without encountering clearing issues in some parkade IMO.

The display key is a joke, really. Do not get one. On the other hand, the card key is amazingly useful.

Thanks all for your responses. They seems to be a clear consensus NOT to get the display key if available. I have the BMW connect app on my android phone, so it acts like the display key. That parking feature is not appealing to me. Thanks again!

Remote parking is no longer available on newer BMW models because the laws in Germany changed and now no longer allow remote-driving cars. When the current 5 and 7 series were approved by the German automotive authorities, the law had not yet been in effect which is why these can still be sold with the feature. Once the 5/7 series reach LCI, it is expected that remote parking will no longer be available - that is unless the respective laws would change again, which is something that the car makers are actively lobbying for.

LOL, that's good, since again, it doesn't exists on G05/G06/G07 :-).

With the stricter regulations in Germany, I would assume that Tesla has no chance of featuring their summon options in their vehicles, either. Once the technology is perfected, I am sure the respective laws will be mandated.

It is possible to only code one key for each profile.

The only extra feature not in the app is changing the height of the air suspension with the DK.

Don't waste your money on it. I have it. Never used it.

I could have sworn that I saw a remote park screen when I was swiping through the screens on the display key once, so perhaps the software is lurking in there. Never saw it again of course so perhaps I was hallucinating.

I use the display key, personally I don't find it that much bulkier. It does have its uses on the 45e for switching on the preconditioning. Yes you can use the phone app but the key is much quicker - if it's charged. It's useful for lowering the car too.

Would I have paid extra for it? Possibly not.

I would pass on the display key, however I believe like one of the posters above posted its not available for the x5, I could be wrong

PARTS@STBMW Brit is the display key available for G05? if so what features does it open up that the app doesn't already do.

It is available in Europe, I got one with my car last week. Pretty useless, though - I'm using the regular key as it's smaller and not so likely to be destroyed in my pocket.

yea thats what I meant, can't really do much with it on the G05 making it almost useless besides novelty. Nonetheless not sure maybe you can open up some more options with some coding from a third party coder

Using it as a paper weight is an excellent conversation starter in work environments. But now with WFH being encouraged, even that use is drastically limited.

If you happen to have a tight garage, having the vehicle move itself in/out of it under remote control can be quite useful. Once in awhile, if someone has parked quite close, it would be nice to be able to have the thing back itself out of the space so you aren't trying to squeeze in there. But, unless I knew it would work for that purpose, it's not particularly useful. I think you could put it in the phone spot and recharge it there so depending on the length of your drive, it may not be a big thing to keep it charged.

For those that own a Apple watch, or even most phones...those need to be charged pretty much daily, so what's one more thing?

It does not work for that purpose.

Apple watches and most phones have a real added value that you get in return when you charge them.
