70k car cannot do this simple settings! Please tell me I am wrong here
I have programmed both keys on my wife's new X5. Now I have paired both of our iPhones to the car both wi-fi and Bluetooth. Both phones are visible.
When she enters the car (KEY 1) her phone connects and carplay is enabled for her phone. When I entered a car (KEY 2) my iPhone is not connected for the CarPlay and system still show her iPhone as CarPlay phone. I see at settings option of phone priorities where her phone is first and my second. Do I really need to go to SETTINGS and each time connect to my iPhone in order to enable carplay from my phone ? Should not system immediately recognize KEY profile and according to the settings turn on appropriate phone? Please tell I must be doing something wrong her … |

i'm confused. are you saying that you're entering her car from the passenger side, while she's in the drivers seat? or are you saying that she's nowhere near the vehicle and you're the only one who's trying to drive it using key 2, and the profile won't change over?

what are you trying to accomplish exactly? only one phone can connect via CarPlay at any one time. i have found phone priority setting doesn’t really work, or it doesn’t work the way we think it should.
you need to be more specific and paint us the sequence of events. who’s the driver and passenger in your scenario? one thing is certain: the vehicle doesn’t like it when both key fobs are in the vehicle at yes same time. if you must bring both, isolate the one not assigned to the driver (pack in the cargo and/or place inside a faraday pouch). |

If I’m reading this correctly, the problem is that phone priority is independent of driver profiles. Her phone always defaults if it is near enough to pick up even if you are driving.
My wife has that problem driving my car. Her key, she’s in the driver seat, her profile, but my phone ALWAYS connects when I’m there because I’m priority one on the phone list. They should have made that selection part of the driver profile.

on the rare occasion that multiple key fobs are present, what I like to do, which seems to work on my vehicle, is to unlock the door with the keyfob itself. That usually triggers the correct profile. Or touch the door handle where the sensor is on the drivers side door handle first. and then let the passenger with their keyfob approach the car.
if your main annoyance is that you cant play music while your wife's primary phone is connected, Apple has devised a solution (upcoming) for you: "It all seems pretty simple, really. One master iPhone connects to CarPlay as normal, but all other iPhones in the car will also then be able to connect via SharePlay and take over music-streaming duties. Music playback controls will also be available, too." https://www.imore.com/ios/ios-17/app...ater-this-year |

The issue is NOT where music is play from. It is more of if I am driving, my wife's phone become the primary Carplay phone. When notification or phone call come, it will transfer to screen. We have to manually disconnect her phone everytime.

Phones are paired to the car, not the keys. Therefore, if both phones are present hers will take priority regardless of which key is used to open/start the car.

Agreed, very annoying that my X5 will connect to wife's iPhone before mine when we're both in the car.
I've programmed one of my radio preset buttons to the the device sub-menu so I can quickly disconnect her phone when were driving together. All that being said, there are several other simple things that $40-$50k cars come with as standard, and BMW charges for which annoy me more. |

The fact is, when we have some old cars, I never drive the same car with my wife, we each only drive one car. Only with tech, both my tesla and bmw supports adjusting most of settings automatically so it makes possible to drive any car without any issue. (I don't care too much bluetooth/carplay thing, i use inbuilt navigations and listen to inbuilt streaming/radios.) |

OK let me be more specific...
OK, let me try if I can explain this better.
There are no two keys in the car. Either Key 1 (my wife's) or when I drive, Key 2. Both phones are paired, and priority is my wife's phone, then my. I am expecting when I use my key (profile) that car will automatically switch to my phone and connect to CarPlay. Simple as that. But it does not. I must manually switch ‘Mobile Devices’ to my phone. How ridiculous this is. Should not we expect that whoever is driving the car that car immediately connects to that driver’s phone? |

Yeah, I hear you. but i would doubt that there's any car in the market right now can do that automatically for you when both phones inside the car.

Same here, but it's by default, i.e. the phone priority is not connected to the primary driver. For me the solution is simple, both phones have disabled WIFI and BT.

FWIW, I find the easiest way to switch it over is to place the “offending” phone in airplane mode for a second while the other phone connects.

Sorry but disabling BT and wifi on my phones is an example of the solution being worse than the problem--I need BT and wifi active on my phones at all times.
