Potential issue delaying delivery of 50e?

I see a few folks ordering 50e, including myself, with build date around 6/1 all have 50e at "awaiting for carrier assignment" for ~6 days from week23 tracking thread (https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...18108&page=4); although based in different location. (I am in California where cars are shipped by trains, and a few east coast folks.)

In the same thread folks with M60i and other model all have cars shipped out a few days ago. Seems all cars with delays are 50e.

I also see there are quite a number of cases people complaining about "drivetrain malfunction" issue that bricks the car for 50e. Suspecting if there might be some "stop delivery" trying to sort out some defect?

I might be quite wrong as I do not have too much knowledge in the topic and purely speculation.

If that would be the case why are there still 50e's going into production?

Not too sure. I knew in pandamic where there is chip shortage Ford does produce car without critical component to run and put them in huge parking lot waiting for component to arrive and being installed later. Maybe too costly to shutdown the assembly line when issue can get fixed?

When my 2022 Z4 was delayed, I was able to use a BMW Recall Info Tool - https://bmw-recall-tool.netlify.app/. It let me know my Z4 was being delayed because of a missing RAM chip. No idea if it works for X5s or not, but it is worth a try. Just need to enter your VIN.

You can also try calling the BMW Genius Hotline – 1.844.4GENIUS (443-6487) or Customer Relations 1-800-831-1117.

It is just normal shipping delays, nothing specific to the 50e. If there were a problem the vehicles would be held in QC and not Awaiting Carrier.

Awaiting carrier pickup means the vehicle is finished and waiting for a suitable carrier to take it away. Mine was built in 2021 just before Labor Day, and sat for a week before it was shipped...it all depends on the availability of the shippers, and weather and holidays can cause delays. Also note, BMW doesn't update the owner's portal as quickly as they do the one available to the dealers, so it could already be on its way before you see it with that status. My guess is that the updates occur overnight, and may not be done over a weekend, so is a bit disappointing...you can call BMW or talk to your dealer, and their status should be more up to date. THat won't get it there quicker, but may make you feel better.

This is correct. My BMW portal said "awaiting carrier assignment" up until it was delivered to the dealership. Talk to the dealership as they can get real-time updates.

My 50e is stuck at "awaiting carrier assignment", but I am doing PCD (6/21/23) so my assumption is it won't move past that point.

My guess is that a BMW employee will drive it across the road to the Performance Center to be prepped prior to your ultimate pickup...no contract carrier involved.

I just got mine yesterday. They will move it across the street 7-10 days before delivery. It will move to 198 @ dealer at that point. It was the longest 10 days knowing it is sitting there....🥴
