charge capacity
Is there an upgrade you can do to increase the charging capacity?
I have a 45e with level 2 charger and would love it if the car would charge faster. I know that the 50e ha faster charge rate than the 45e so is it something that can be swapped out ? |

the level 2 you plug into the vehicle is called an EVSE though commonly referred to as the “charger”. the charger is actually inside the vehicle, and nobody’s attempted to upgrade it. the 50e’s charger is 7.4kW which is why it can accept a charging rate up to 32A versus the 45e’s max of 16A due to its 3.7kW charger |

It would be a major pain IMHO, to upgrade the 45e's charging capacity to that of the 50e's...it is unlikely to be a simple part swap...software logic, cooling capacity, wiring harness gauges to handle higher power levels, and who knows what else.
The best you can to do on the 45e is to ensure you're using a level 2 EVSE that can provide 16A. |
