X5 M60i - Adaptive M Suspension Professional??
Hi, all. For the life of me I can't decide on whether adding the Adaptive M Suspension Professional for an additional $2,200 would be worth it - or even desirable. I currently have a '24 X5 M60i on order, and it is currently spec'd with the stock suspension. I don't have the option of test driving a vehicle with it unfortunately. Am I going to regret not getting the Adaptive M Suspension Professional? I want a smooth ride and also want decent handling. I'm not planning on riding it on a track or racing it, so there's that...

If you want the sportiest ride possible then get it. If you are wanting an SUV that handles better than most on the market then stick with the stock.

I’ve had both suspensions. The Adaptive M is firmer across the board in all drive modes and on all road types. Irregardless of suspension chosen the X5 is always going to be a big heavy lumbering SUV. It’ll never be considered agile so one could argue why try to make it into something it’ll never be by optioning on the M Adaptive suspension UNLESS you really do prefer a firmer ride.
Personally, I like a firmer ride and would option on the M suspension but it really just comes down to personal preference.

TN2SC2020; the answer given by Jen4BMW, although appreciated, is not relevant to your question, as all X5 M60i come standard with Adaptive M Suspension. You specifically asked about Adaptive M Suspension Professional. Adaptive M Pro makes the X5 more compliant, and in most peoples opinion, more comfortable because the lack of body roll. It can also prevent passengers from getting car sick if that's relevant. If you want your X5 to have the flattest cornering response with minimal body roll then Adaptive M Pro is what you're looking for. Conventional anti-roll bars are standard across all X5 models and provide passive roll stabilization, but they are unable to correct for body roll mid-cornering. BMW anti-roll stabilization(ARS) in the Adaptive M Pro package provides continuous active roll stabilization and reduces roll tendency by stiffening the roll in real time. This is done by targeted application of mechanical moments on the stabilizer halves by means of an electric motor. In straight-ways and driving over bumps, ARS can fully decouple the left and right halves so that vibrations are almost eliminated which increases ride comfort. For the X5 this is not correct. The standard (Sport, formerly xLine) and the Adaptive M use the exact same hardware. The only difference between the two is that the Sport modes are tuned sportier on the Adaptive M. The Comfort mode is exactly the same on the two.

If you are not looking for the most comfortable ride possible, which would be the air suspension, then in my opinion it makes sense to get it. It all depends on what your expectations are.

As he mentioned, the standard is passive ARS. The M50i/M60i has model-specific tuned kinematics and elasto-kinematics, suspension hardware and components to handle increased power output, eg: equipped with reinforced components compared to the standard chassis: a harder stabilizer, stiffer wishbones and harder rubber bearings.

The biggest reason I went with a M60 is to get the professional suspension/adaptive roll. If you drive hard and want no compromises on comfort or the best handling, it’s worth it.

Adaptive M Suspension Professional on the M60i is equivalent to DHP on the M50i. GET IT!!

I learn something new every day on here! So just to make sure I am following all this, the adaptive M sport suspension on my 22 X3 M40i is completely different than than X5 adaptive M Pro suspension. Is this accurate?

Yes, that is accurate. There are various differences with the biggest being the active roll stabilization.

Adaptive M has rear air suspension. Right? The Air you are referring to is Air on both axels I am assuming. Adaptive M Pro (same as DHP in prior models) adds Active roll bars to rear air suspension as far as I know.

For what it is worth-
Drove a MY24 X5 M60 the other day (without the $2.2k extra m suspension package) and noticed a fair amount of body roll in corners. Was not driving the wheels off and switching to sport / plus will help some. I am now ordering with the extra package; YMMV. |
