How is the A/C?

I'm curious to hear from any owners in warmer climates (South FL in particular) how the quality of the A/C is?

The A/C in the F15/F16 was really weak and took forever (10-15mins) to blow cold air. Heard same complaints about 5er and 7er.

Curious how the G05 is comparing here?

Thanks

Not sure if it's the new R1234yf refrigerant vs R134A or BMW's infamous average A/C units, but it seems just slightly worse than our previous SUV 2010 Honda Pilot. It's only gotten to the mid 80's so we haven't really stressed it yet. It does cool pretty good so far. American car manufacturer's A/C units will almost always win in the meat locker cooling category....

I live in AZ and yesterday we hit 94, I had the AC set to 68 and it performed perfectly. The best part leaving it in auto it didn't have to run the fan a full blast to keep it cool.

Remote start also worked very well, had the X5 cool in under 5 mins sitting in a parking lot.

I will be able to give another response when it hits around 115 this summer.

South Texas hit the 90s today. My week old X5 50i was nice and cold on my drive back home today. The same can't be said about that a/c performance on my 2019 Ram 1500.

It still sucks. Max air is marginally useful when attempting to cool the hot car. You will not be able to communicate with other passengers during this time however. Maintaining the cabin temp in hot weather means a very noisy environment. Compared to a Chevrolet or Mercedes the AC in a BMW is an embarrassment to the brand. Naples Florida.

There is a separate thread re: adjusting the temperature range of upper body area. If you think the AC is weak, make sure you have set the temp to cold (left blue) for both the driver and passenger. It makes a world of difference.

See this thread: here

If only max A/C is working, your upper vent settings are likely wrong. This is a big issue for people new to BMW's. Really wish the dealers would really emphasize these settings which are tricky to BMW newbs.

I'm in South Florida and have found it cools very quickly. The ventilated seats help cool you down way faster as well.

The air conditioner in my F15 couldn't do anything at all in the hot season. But I live in Austin, and it can be very hot here sometimes. And at first, I thought that it was the weather, supposedly the intense heat does not allow the car to cool down, and so on. But it turns out that my compressor did not work correctly, and the radiator was also a little clogged. Therefore, if your air conditioner does not blow cold air, then something is wrong with it! I already realized this when I asked my friend to find me, qualified specialists, to do a complete cleaning of the a/c parts. Otherwise, I would have to pay a lot of money for the details later.

Yeah, go to your iDrive settings and set that vent air temp to that glacial setting, all the way tf down. It's so much better.

I too think A/C system is quite weak. I remote start all the time to help. Once in, it's really cool for a few minutes then when the system is back to normal, it's not comfortable even temp is set to 70. I have to hit Max A/C too often. I feel the fan should run more to achieve that temperature and I wonder where it checks for the set temp.

AC on my X6M working flawlessly even during the 93+ heatwave NY has been having on and off last 2 weeks.

Cools fast and stays cool.

A/C was great too on my previous 40i except when the engine would turn off at stop lights.

Was in the 90s here in Atlanta and did a great job. I take full advantage of the precondition feature though to make sure the car is nice and cool before I even get it.

I am in Austin TX and I think it is fine but would suggest adding window tint to the windshield and side windows. Also use a shade in the front window. Only complaint is that it does seem to need to run at a high fan speed when it is 95+ outside to keep things at a good temp.

My experience with my X6 in South FL is that it works OK. Once it gets going it cools down pretty well. My initial impression is that after the initial cool down of the hot car, it seems to let the temperature creep up a bit on a hot, sunny day. I’ve set my auto fan speed limit one up from the default bottom segment setting to see if that helps any.

Much better than the F15 was. I'm fine with it except for the auto start/stop which zaps some of the cooling when the engine is turn off. So I switch to sport mode (haven't coded it yet to defeat start/stop)

My 2013 535xi gets cold in 90 degree WX in 1 min or less. My 20 X5 takes 6-7 minutes and never gets super cold. I would give it a B- vs A+ in the older Car. Frankly, I called the dealer 5 weeks ago and said I was concerned it wasn’t working correctly. But he said it is “just the way the new ones are!” I told him it was painful to wait the 6 minutes to get a comfortable car. Wife drives the X5 and I drive the 535. She always comments how much better my A/C is. So there you go! Your not nuts.

The "default" segment is the 3rd step up from the bottom which is too cold for me lol.

Then someone must have reset mine before I got it, because it was always set at the bottom since I picked the car up from the dealer.

I’m in Arizona, and have had my X5 40i since November of 2019, and have never had any complaints about the A/C, even when temps hit 115+. Very happy, A/C-wise.

I have 45e, I hit climate on app a few minutes before I leave, checking out at Publix…Psubs, if I just have a quick run, I set condition when I park. I also got the windshield and front windows tinted to block 97% of Heat, works well. It has been 95 plus for a while and works really well.
