And speaking of home security, I've been using this on my front door for years and my 10-year-old just defeated it in 10 seconds.

Wife wants a NEST or RING doorbell, i said no fucking way i trust those fuckers as you have to save to their servers.

So i am thinking a basic IP set up to work with my incoming NAS. The options are mind boggling.

I am looking for a basic two camera set up, one for the doorway/entrance and one for the back yard.

It needs to be able to write to a NAS, I do not need a dedicated NVR.

Options for both wired or wifi applications.

Has to be a REALLY easy interface, wife will lose her mind with a complicated app.

Any ideas?

I have not really searched this thread so I apologize if this has been answered but are the Lorex systems any good?

They’re ok, had one years ago on analog rca cables, but I think you can do better. Eventually replaced it all with ip. Check out https://www.nellyssecurity.com/

They sell US Hikvision cams and had a good warranty when I last bought.

Why do i always feel like i am searching for a needle in a hay stack???

I want a pair of weatherproof dome cameras that will accept power but do not need a wired connection. I want to save to my NAS via wifi.

Seeing absolfuckinglootly nothing. Closest thing is Arlo but that's battery powered, screw that.

I found this in less than 5 minutes: the LTS CMIP7442W-28WIFI checks all those boxes.

The unfortunate part is the battery operated requirement. Personally, I would just bite the bullet and wire the camera with Category cabling. The requirements of wireless and battery operated is just a recipe for failure.

Not sure if you were referring to the LTS camera, but that one still requires a 12V power supply or PoE. It supports WiFi, should you wish to take advantage of that. I personally have one of these although it's up for an 8MP replacement.

Here is the full spec: http://www.ltsecurityinc.com/platinu...era-4-1mp.html

This should do the trick, and if your NAS is a Synology then it probably includes licenses for two security cameras in the software:

https://www.amazon.com/Reolink-5MP-W.../dp/B076HLT53N

Personally, I would look for H.265 cameras over these H.264 units, because the bandwidth starts to get critical on H.264 over wifi at higher resolutions.....

If you are using it as an important security camera, depending on wifi doesn't seem like the best idea.

Yeah, I was referring to the camera you suggested. Alfisti said he wants a wireless camera but also that it be battery powered. Hence why I said it's two requirements which are a recipe for failure.

And having this same camera be battery operated is even worse.

I think he said will accept power (I assume via a power outlet), but needs to be wifi. He didn’t like Arlo because it’s battery powered. At least, that’s how I read it.

Anything can be hacked, but an IP camera without WAN or LAN1 access is just as secure as a cctv camera.

Bumping this thread. I’m looking to replace current wired system with more resolution. Current system is starting to act up here and there. Wondering if I should stay with a wired system, go with all wireless like Eufy or Arlo Pro 2, or with Ring cameras since I have the Ring alarm system in place. Too many options making my head hurt. So please chime in if you’ve experienced any of these systems.

Wired ftw. I have the ring 2 wireless doorbell in addition to the 4 POE camera system I made in part from nellyssecurity.com, and older Dahua cams. The Ring wireless doesn’t record 24/7 and needs recharging of batteries. POE while more of a pita to get it setup, is worth it in the long run I believe.
