I'm sure many will think I am crazy, but cross shopping 2020 Telluride vs 2019 X5. Any thoughts?

obviously X5 crushes Telluride in driving / handling. But everything else for me seem a toss up.

Kia wins by far with interior space and cargo room

BMW interior quality better

Kia has heated + cooled 2nd row

Infotainment tie

I mean if you don't really care for driving dynamics and find that the Telluride fits all your needs very well, I'd say go with the Kia, now if you have a lot more disposable income go with the X5, but it might be better if you explain what you want in an SUV/vehicle.

have you even looked at or driven the Telluride? Obviously the X5 is better overall.

The Telluride has 99% of the same tech / features and in some cases beats the X5 (blind vision live video, heated/cooled 2nd row, captains chairs, more interior space/cargo).

I just said I was cross shopping it based on tech / feautures.

The driving / handling are not even close, but some people might actually prefer to save $30k and get 99% of the same features.

Technology, Interior Quality / Space, Overall Looks, and Features are most important to me. I do not care as much about the Drive Quality with an SUV. SUV for me is about luxury, space and features not how I can take corners.

I know enough about Kia I wouldnt buy one for my kids first beater car.
Kia is a Asian budget level vehicle at best regardless of the wrapper they use. A Gucci knock off you see at a fleamarket. Kia is NOT going to be the next Lexus (or even Honda). For that matter most BMW owners wouldn’t cross shop a Lexus as the vehicles offer very different driving priorities.

No one in their right mind would trade their Jeep for a Kia. Coming to a BMW forum and suggesting it is plausible is ludacrist. Even at the lowest entry level BMW model, they are not cross shopping anything from Kia.
Go over to the Porsche forum and run this idea up their flagpole.

A few years ago we thought we'd try a hybrid and we were open to anything that wasn't a Prius. KIA put together a really great package with everything but the kitchen sink in it so we bought one. At first it felt luxurious and high tech, but driving that after driving my F10, it really wasn't at all. The leather was sparse and cheap, the plastics and interior felt cheap too. If you just touched a bumper to a tree branch, it would separate from it's clips. I'll say it was a perfect first car for our daughter though when she got her license (she's moved up to BMW too now). But KIA is definitely not in the same league with any of the German brands. And I can say that from experience.

I'd say buy the Kia, it seems like a good little SUV for the money, and the 10 year warranty is excellent, I would say you don't need to pay an extra $30k if you don't care about driving dynamics, plus with that $30k you could get a Miata

Seriously, this. Kia makes a solid vehicle and the warranty is unmatched (well, except by Hyundai, which is the same company essentially). If you have a good dealer (which is a legit concern, the history of the brand means it's hard to find one that's truly exceptional), they are great cars to own unless you need a badge to feel good about it.

Not for me, but I don't think it's ludicrous to cross-shop like that. It depends on the circumstances. Another example is my situation: I need a tow vehicle after insurance totalled my last one after a minor accident. I also have an E46M3. The practical life decision very quickly narrowed down to a) keep M3 (for performance), get Toyota Highlander (for reliability), or b) trade M3, get X5 (not for reliability but for performance). The later won because the dealer made the trade-in work, but I was ready to go either way. X5 on the way, first model year bugs and everything ...

Any brand that from Hyundai is No No to me. Bought 2017 Tucson for my brother but after 6 months lot of problem, so traded for X3 and happy. Back to the Kia.. no.. i would not.

By the way, had little race with Stinger on I94 last night , i believe it is GT version, mine is 50I. Have to say the Stinger power is quite impressive. Did not roll for long because too dangerous but the guy can keep up with my car my be some JB4 but havecto say not bad lol

I certainly wouldn't cross shop the X5 and the Kia, however I did see one of the new Telluride's on the freeway a couple days ago for the first time. And I gotta say, it has some serious presence. Rear looks very wide, stance is cool, and it stood out among all the other SUVs on the freeway. I might give it a look if I was wanting a less expensive 3-row SUV.

Been already down this path and I'm not doing it again. After going through hell with my 335d with it's horrible emission control system (can't do ABC delete in California due to smog checks), I lost all sense and decided to go with a "sensible choice" Accord V6 Touring. I mean "who needs a BMW when I can go for reliability and SAVE $30,000?!"

After putting up with a boring as hell reliable and practical car, I dumped it and got the 540i. The Telluride is a huge threat for the lifeless luxury appliance crossover SUVs like the MDX, RX350, and maybe even the gutless wonder that the GLE350 is, but for anyone who wants to enjoy some spirited driving their SUV while hauling the family is going to pass.

That cheap powertrain alone with 0-60 in 7.5'ish is enough to make me give it a pass. You're also going to have to ring it out to get moving with that 5200 rpm peak torque rating...

Safety and reliability are two important features. I can say without a doubt that it doesn't have the reliability. Nor will you get the same treatment going in for service at Kia dealership that you get from BMW. Also depreciation is a huge problem for these cars. My dad has a loaded Cadenza that he paid $40k for. 2 years later with about 25k miles and in perfect condition, he couldn't sell it for $23k.

Simple decision. According to expert reviewer, DougDeMuro, the BMW X5 scores 62 on the DougScore, whereas the Kia Telluride scores 50.

This thread is absolutely worthless. If a cross shop with a Kia is even a consideration, then go buy one and quit posting here.

clearly if you're serious you shouldn't be driving anything. These two are not comparable in ant way other than having 4 wheels. If this sounds harsh take a step back and think about what you're asking please.
