X5 50e on hold

Ordered my ex 550 E and put a deposit down of €1000 in August for delivery late September. I was done told there was a hold on the car and I would not have it until January. The dealer rang me this morning, informing me that there is another photo hold, and I will not have it until February or possibly March of next year, I told him that we have already done the deal and that deal should stand the fact that my car is late arriving his BMW is fault and not mine. What is your opinion on this?

That's odd, where are you at?

There are 50e models becoming more available now it seems.

Even a custom order seems to be 4-6 weeks delivery time for a new order now.

BMW appropriates a certain number of allocations per dealer. high volume dealers get more allocations and likely monthly, but small volume dealers may not get allocations for months. no allocation = no production slot for your vehicle.

sounds like your dealer did not and still doesn’t have an allocation. that’s the first thing I’d ask them: do you have an allocation? if not, when do you expect to get one? if they do have an allocation, I’d ask for more specifics on ‘why’ the hold? is it a parts supply issue, recall, electronics, etc?

curious, do you have a production number? if so, disregard the above. when was it produced?

Not sure on the timing of it but could it be one of the vehicles that are on hold due to possible damage from hurricane Idalia? Did your dealer give you a VIN. If so, you can look at the web site to see if there are any holds, codes, etc.
