When we did it in 2019 (highly recommended), it was a lot of coordination work for the sales advisor (not hard work, but just took time), so this might be another factor, as to why a dealership would downplay the availability.

Thanks Skyline...that's the plan, against the suggestion of my S.O. but I think it will be a fun way to get to know the car and make some neat stops along the way.

If I'm buying an X5 and doing the experience later after delivery, can I do a different vehicle? Like I'm buying an X5, do you get to do the experience in an M car?

You drive what you are buying.

X5 -> X5
X7 -> X7

For the performance segment, specifically the skid pad, you get to drive an M car, which was a hoot and a half. (This was day of delivery of my 45e, of which all other driving was done in a 45e.)

They had 45e's? All of the X5's there were just 40i's that I saw and that's what we all drove (X5 40i, 45e buyers).

What’s the lead time looking like for PCD lately? 2 weeks I’m fine with, but if it’s like 6 I may just skip it. Still waiting to hear back from them about the date.

I did the "New Owners Track Drive" which was offered after delivery. It is different than PCD, but it is a great experience. You get to drive M Cars on the track. I have a post about it.
I don't know if they are still offering it, but it is worth asking about.

Oh OK. Would have loved to been able to test everything in a 45e with all that extra battery weight

Hey Wuf,
My SA put a request in for me on 4/14 and the first available date is 5/25. The letter they sent my SA was a bit ominous...it basically said take this date or we don't know if we'll be able to offer you another date due to how backed up the program is.

Well that doesn’t sound too bad, my CA sent the request about 6 days later, so if my PCD date is ~6 days after yours, I won’t mind that. I should find out on Wednesday considering their “10 business day response” thing.

Were you able to do the performance delivery ? I am scheduled for Jan 11 and will also be driving to Bay Area over 3-4 days doing multiple stops/stays. Can you share your experience and provide and recommendations?

Reviving this thread. Has anyone done PCD recently? How was the experience? What was the lead time from the production date? Any advice before I go?

greyslime, hi. You will see a ton of new and updated information and advice on this thread:

https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2077733

The bottom line: Do PCD if you possibly can. (The general rule of thumb is that you have to do the PCD between two and six weeks after production, and your sales associate has to reserve the date for you.)
