‘22 X5 40i xLine Black Sapphire - Two Cosmetics Changes

First two cosmetic changes, kidney grill and side air vents…. Can’t say I love it yet; I really could go either way and go back to the original chrome grill. Still contemplating whether I should black wrap three silver fronts or just the two sides (whatever they are called). Definitely will ‘update’ the amber side markers and the rear red reflectors, though also contemplating on whether to darken it with tint to look like smoked (just read one of the member here did that, not sure if that’s going to hold up well though) or Install the IND-distribution’s painted ones…. Decisions, decision, decisions….
10101X5 - I still like the look of your black grill for some reason On 2022, the inner grill is all blacked out unlike yours it’s chrome… and it has fog lights… perhaps those are the subtleties making yours look just a tad bit better OR you are just that good of a photographer with a great looking background - https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1844053

Using search:

Cosmetic Mods
M side vents installed

https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1811894

Even though the OP replaced with X5 ///M side vents, procedure is for any.

@hee4860 Auricom provided the exact link above for instructions. It's very easy to install. But be very gentle with the bottom tab if you think you'll want to reuse it again. They are extremely fragile on xLine's chrome side vents. I broke the same clip on both sides even though I was really careful and gentle. The clip I'm referring to is the first one on the bottom right (see attached). I've also included the instructions that came with the aftermarket side vents. I did not put on any double sided tape like what VetteZ06 did though (not sure if it already came with the vents he got but mine didn't come with it and didn't mention that in the instructions. Don't really think it's needed as it's very secure already). But you'll need to reuse the yellow and the white tabs and they are really easy pull off from OEM's. Good luck…

I got both grill and side vents off of Amazon from the same seller. Attached is a screen shot. It's a very good seller with good customer response time if you have questions and perfect fit also. I bought both separately (didn't see they sell both in a package deal) so I messaged the seller and requested refund for the difference, they responded the next day without any hassle!

I understand I am the outlier here, but I actually like the chrome trim bits. I think if you start touching one part, you're going to eventually do them all, and while the side vents and grill are low hanging fruit, the window trim and roof rails would likely require some money spent on it.

It really depends on the personal preference and sometimes "peer pressure" of the trend… LOL
I have black sapphire and personally I think black still needs some chrome accent to go with it. I just hate the fact that the side vents are non-functional and it's chrome, making it too standout for me. I actually like the fact that previous year's front inner grill vents are chrome instead of the 2022's are blacked out (I mentioned it in my original post on 10101X5's X5). Personally I won't make window's frames and roof rails black. To each of their own though….

Personally, with Black Sapphire, I wouldn't either. But visually getting rid of the side vents is something I like, especially since they are without function.

On the front, I think what makes the black grille a bit "hmm..notsureish" are the Chrome parts below. With the lower Chrome accents being the only ones, I think your eyes automatically drop to them. Maybe they - instead of the grille - are the ones that should go? Try by masking with some black tape?

That's what my original post says, still contemplating…. 😀 But if I were to do the bottom, I would do both front sides as well, painted. I don't dislike the current combination, still might go back to the original grill if I am tired of it… 😀
