The airbox looks like PIA to get into. At the very least I'd like to drop a K&N filter in there. But the screws look difficult to get too/easy to drop into the engine bay

Every BMW box I went into, the screws unscrewed, but never left the tabs unless you make them. Just unscrew, lift the box lid, change to filter, install box and align the screws to the holes.

Yeah. I see what you're saying. That sounds like abetter plan than removing the screws altogether. I've done it on my 330 andX6, but bith those airboxes were easier positioned to get to. This one's all angled downward and tucked in close to the front of the engine compartment. It's like playing "Operation". Takes a steady hand...

Ihave done extensive research on this and even contacted a company in the states who do alot of BMW intakes, nothing from their end yet as it is so new. They are developing something.
The next best thing would be to take the standard filter out and try compare with an existing K&n product then install that. |

I quite easily removed the intake cover/filter and installed a BMS high-flow intake. In all it took about 30 minutes, didn’t damage anything, and the turbos are noticeably louder when they spool up.
I installed a JB4 and new plugs at the same time, maybe an hour under the hood. Edit: Photo Attached Last edited by mikestpierre; 04-18-2020 at 12:50 PM.. Reason: Added a photo |

Two of the screws are a little tricky, but when backing them out I just stopped using a driver and used my fingers, easy to not drop them.

Was there any benefits from converting to the BMS ? Outside of easy filter change. What year is your car ? |

I put the JB4 in at the same time, so I wouldn’t be able to know if it had more of much of an impact. It does sound great though... |

Here's their contact webpage.
https://burgertuning.com/pages/contact I'd email them, and if they say yes, and it doesn't fit, you'll be in a better situation when returning it. |
