If you do a search on it, there should be a couple of threads about permanently opening the valves. From what I recall, it was pretty easy to do.

Straight trough as 888RRE has done, thats the way.
UK M50i's have secondary cats and removed as shown.
As stated, saved me either a whole new exhaust be it custom made or the car being sold.

Yeah I went with straight pipe in place of the resonator. I ordered an OBD2 and got bimmerlink. My plan is to open the valves and then pull fuse 203 to keep them open

I'm going straight and leaving the exhaust valve alone. Should be nice and loud when I want and quite in comfort mode.

I am also looking to go this route. Can you possibly upload a video when done comparing the differences between open and closed valves?

Sure. Won't be done for a few weeks. I take delivery mid October.

You are lucky guys to have better sound in M50i than X5M - I really like the sound and pops you get.

I love the X5M but i have to agree with you, i would rather slightly less 0-100 as the sound is much better in M50i plus i prefer the 7 series style interior.

Do it it's worth the sound
And you will get some low end cracks and pops
I did it on my X5m everyday someone complements the sound

Will this void the warranty? I’m planning on deleting the resonator on my 22 X5 M50i. About to take delivery sometime this week, subject to the damn remedy for the touchscreen of course 😂.

Doing res delete with straight pipes tomorrow. I just read about this 15 min ago. I love it. I will find someone to do it on the spot. I need this!!! Leaving flaps alone because if I want to drive normal I want silence. It is a luxury SUV!

What size pipe did everyone use to join the pipes together? This shop is using 2.5” and stretched edges. Inside of resonator is same size. If you look inside the resonator it actually shrinks down. So that’s why I’m thinking 2 1/2 inches OK. Would 3 inch make a difference if they stretched it and put the 3 inch pipe around the existing pipe and welded it? Probably not but I’m looking for other inside because I would get it redone if that’s the case

The the pipes and the resonator inlet/outlet is 3". So it is better to use 3 inch piping.

I've done it, coldstart is obnoxious, I like it because I'm a loud person. My wife was too embarrassed to drive the car. It's ridiculously obnoxious on start up

Got a few questions:
I see you're in NJ, where did you get it done may I ask?
Straight pipe or X?
Is it really just a cold start difference at the end of the day? Did you keep the valves in or you fixed them to be permanently open? I feel like most of the users who only did a delete and nothing else didnt report major changes during driving conditions.

Thanks!

Res delete plus

Hey guys I’ve been reading this thread so i decided for the res delete, but my local exhaust specialist is recommending the res delete plus a custom exhaust with res chamber y one side and direct pipe in the other using the OEM flaps so you can unleash the beast in sport and sport+ Here a some photos of the same upgrade in a mustang and I’ll try to post video of a X6M F86 with this custom exhaust.
