Spencer’s Power Build Thread - 2019 50i M Sport

Hi X5 gang! I’m starting this thread to share the build process on my 2019 X5 50i M Sport! I picked it up just 3 months ago with only 16k miles on it and it’s been a welcome improvement over the old VW Atlas family hauler! My wife has a 2020 Jaguar F pace S which is fun to drive but for the X5 I’m wanting reliable power, with no shortcuts and a willingness to spend $ on whatever the beat options are for her! Sure, in 3-4 years I’ll trade it in for the new M60i X5 or perhaps a Cayenne Turbo coupe, but for now it’s all about building this one up!

Here’s what I have planned (some still debating and researching- feel free to chime in on your experiences / knowledge on the parts/manufacturers!

1) Active AutoWerke Hi flow catted Downpipes - Cerakote coated
2) X5M carbon retrofitted air intake (heat taped piping to lower air temps)
3) Meisterschaft full exhaust system
4) NGK 2 step colder plugs gapped 0.02
5) Better ignition coils- perhaps Dinan or another reputable brand
6) TUNING!? So, Most of us know the options, I’ll be doing a flash tune, here are the contenders:

1- Bootmod3 - consensus is smoother, strong power gains
2- HeatSync (Purcell is a very nice, knowledgeable guy)
3- Active Aurowerkes own tune (35 years experience)

Again, the goal is POWER and RELIABILITY! Please share your opinions….I’ll be keeping this thread updated…

Atlas was a good solid vehicle! The Jaguar is cool but the pure power and just feel of the X5 is more my style. There were no Cayenne turbo coupes near me when I decided to trade the atlas in, and I’m happy enough with this X5 to have fun and mod it!

To each their own man! The interior quality and turbo platforms are really something to experience though! I got to spend some time with new Aston Martin DBX and it was a lot larger than I was expecting, very nice interior and really liking the overall look, I just don’t know if I could daily drive it.

Yeah that car is sweet for sure!

I did check out the 3 tunes you listed and did not find support for G05 N63 engine though, unless I wasnt looking in the right place, but hopefully I am wrong and someone on here has ran it and can provide some details into it. I went wit JB4 simply for ease of removability

Yea so to do the flash tunes I’ll simply
Have to ship my DME/ECU out, or via cable download, but all 3 verified they are able to tune it!

How has the JB4 been on map 1 and 2 for you?

Update #1- Spoke to Purcell at HeatSync, purchasing his flash tune today and Hi flow catted down pipes…still debating the X5M intake as I have the BMC drop in filters here I can slap on. It’s $2100 for the intake which is steep IMO….

This is going to be nice. Looking forward to the finished product!

I have no experience with Cerakote; but if you're not concerned about looks and want to reduce heat, Swain Tech White Lightning is highly regarded.

Do you feel any noticeable difference with the BMC drop in filters?

Mid range throttle response at higher rpm’s. With the heatsync stage 2 flash and downpipes soon it will REALLY be powerful! That’s why I started this thread, to document how to build these cars for power the right way!

Happy Friday gang! Active Autowerke downpipes should arrive this Sunday! Going to get some fresh coolant and trans fluid/filter maintenance done and likely within 7-10 days will be GO TIME! I’ll make a few videos of the install and driving impressions etc, with Stage 2 HeatSync + downpipes this is REALLY going to move! I will be changing the oil every 4k miles and new Plugs/coils every other oil change. Overall, I’m SUPER excited to get this beast built! I’m gonna throw a set of 20mm H&R spacers on the front as aim tuning nice fat 30mm on the rear and I think the wider stance/footprint will be welcome with all this new power. I believed I’m one of the only people to do a Stage 2 on this platform (X5 50i- TU3) , so hopefully it encourages others to make the plunge..more to come!
