X5 3rd row not an option any longer

Apparently BMW has removed the 3rd row option on the X5. Does anyone know if this will be added back? I recall they did this last winter for a short period of time. Not many people order it this way, but I assume BMW wants to steer people toward the X7.

Does anyone know if it’s because of the 3rd Row, or could it be the Air Suspension

Air suspension has always been limited during the shortage with 2VR and 4UB option removed on 40i and M50i around March 21.

2VR was prioritized for X5 45e and X7 since both models were designed using and require air suspension.

Fall 2021, 4UB 3rd row option (includes air) was available on 40i but not M50i. So there was a limited time one could order a X5 40i with air but only with 3rd row.

Recently 4UB has been dropped off again despite showing in MY22 guides.

I ordered my built with the 3rd row/air suspension in 12/2021. Have production # but no proddate. Is BMW acknowledging the builds submitted or they will I get a 4UB deletion?

May go with a 45e instead

No more 3rd row option? I was thinking of ordering a 40i with the 3rd row option just to get the air suspension. Now I might pick the 45e instead. Air suspension is a top priority for me but so is a conventional sounding ICE in all driving modes.
Question: If ultimate gas economy is not important to me, how feasible or practical is running the 45e in adaptive and sport mode full time. Will that mean the ICE is running full time and gets an assist from the electric motor for acceleration and just idle on cruise? Thanks

completely feasible

being a Hybrid vehicle, when conditions allow and requirements are met, the electric motor will take priority as the primary drivetrain in all drive modes except Sport when the ICE is running full time.

by "idle on cruise", do you mean when cruising at speed (on a highway), the ICE is idle and the electric motor is maintaining the cruising speed? if so, then no. you cruise along like an ICE-only vehicle would (as seen by the rpm). while I don't know exactly if or how the electric motor assists while cruising, its overall assistance in Sport mode does improve the ICE's efficiency and performance.

Assumption is yes and uncertain if there is a 4UB delete until 150 scheduled for production.

Air suspension is totally worth it. If you don't want the phev complications then X7 possibly or too big? The issue I was concerned about was the weight of the 45e with 750 extra pounds. The X7 weighs that much more too but you get more space and additional luxurious options like soft closing doors and heated/cooled cupholders… I'm really happy with the 40i size and dynamics, but I think the 45e is also a great option…

Any update on the availability of 3rd row option? Our X7 lease is up at the end of the year. We’d like to downsize to X5 but only if it can seat 7 on occasion.

No update, possibly for the LCI but I don't think we have seen that for the Belgium configurations that were made available.

Having had an X5 with third row seating (2017- so F series), I can tell you there were two main problems with it (which I am not sure translate to the G05 but I suspect they do)
  1. Unless you’re 4 years old or younger, you’re not fitting back there
  2. There is no climate control in the third row. Just a fan. That doesn’t work during hot weather.

For that reason we upgraded to an X7, with third row climate control.

We have a third row and use it for long trips. Our 6 year old sits back there. We also have an 8 and 4 year old and they like it back there too. We like the size better for this stage of life. Unfortunately it hasn’t been available to purchase for a year now - it stopped early January last year 2022 or December 2021 and hasn’t returned.

Good to know about the lack of climate control, thanks.

I only need to squeeze in a 2-5 year old back there for maybe a couple months a year. X5 size is plenty for us. I hate that the facelifted X7 took away a bunch of physical buttons, and apparently the 2024 X5 is getting the same treatment.

100%. The X5 is more user friendly with the buttons than our m3 with idrive8. I get in the x5, and it’s refreshing being able to push the ventilated/heated seat button or air recirc. Definitely a good idea to grab an X5 before they change it. On the other hand the m3 doesn’t really bother me that much because it’s so futuristic, and I use apple carplay almost all the time - which is awesome with the bigger screen. But yeah digging into the menu to change the air recirc or ventilated/heated seat is a pain.
