I activated the digital key plus on my S24+ and it works for a few hours and then disconnects. To get into the car I have to put the phone against the door handle and then the digital key plus is reactivated for a few hours. I go away from the car and it locks, I approach the car and it opens, after a few hours it disconnects again.
Any advice on how to stop it disconnecting would be appreciated.

When you use the key to start the can you have to lay it into the NFS area and leave it. All other other behaviors seem normal to me. I have the Galaxy S24+ and it works great. when operating the car it needs to be on NFS NFC or whatever they call it. Hope this helps.

I can start car without laying phone in charging area, I know the phone has to have UWB activated to work and it is activated. The issue is that it opens and closes the doors without placing against door handle once activated but after a few hours I have to place phone against door handle again which is what you do with digital key without the +.
I assume others out there using digital key + don't have to keep activating it as it really defeats the object of having it if I have to place phone against door handle.

Its not working as intended. My S23 Ultra used to do exactly that until idrive and the phone itself got updates, and I have not really seen the issue since. I dont know which update fixed it.

Thanks, phone is up to date, bought direct from Samsung last week and carried out update when received.
Frustrating as I traded my S23 to get the S24+ specifically for digital key plus, S23 and s24 don't have UWB which digital key + requires.

My bad, you said S24+, I have an S24Ultra. Ultras have UWB.

Two things to try which can be done in either order...

Try removing the key from Samsung, then go into your app settings and disable the app. You should then be able to get Goog to pick it up, and you can see if that works.

There's a chance the OS is closing wallet. To fix that, you'd want to open the program up, then close it. That will put it in your recents/multitasking page. Navigate to the recents, and tap the icon above the wallet card, select lock this app.

Then you'll want to go to the main settings, apps, wallet, battery optimization, all apps, wallet, select don't optimize. You'll notice I said wallet twice, that's because my last Samsung was a fold 2, and I don't remember the exact menu tree but it's something like that. You might be able to get there by using the search tool in settings and searching for optimization.

If the OS is killing wallet in the background, that should keep it hot.

Thanks Crabman, have tried removing from samsung wallet before but defects back to samsung when trying to put in google. Already selected don't optimise, have also turned phone on and off and cleared cache as other bmw versions with key + have had the same issue and their forum members suggested doing this.
Not a major problem just frustrating that it keeps turning off.

It won't work unless you go into settings and disable it. That's completely reversible by going back and enabling it.

If you did that and it's still trying to grab the key that means Samsung cheated s little on their disabling. Should it be so, the next step would be to verify whether it's available on the play store or Samsung store to download. If it is, and it allows you to uninstall, get rid of it.

If you used Samsung pay for other purposes you would reinstall it after you got the key into Google. If you didn't use it, it will save a tiny bit of bat leaving it uninstalled.

Edit: You may also be able to go into the default apps in settings and see if it allows you to pick between Goog and Samsung. I don't have two wallets on my phone so I can't tell if it shows in there.

I have previously uninstalled samsung wallet and installed google wallet but when I went to set up digital key in the app it automatically re-installed samsung wallet and put the key in there.
Another new one today, I opened the car carrying the fob and having the phone in my pocket. Put the fob away and walked past car with phone and it opened it, still working at the moment but says it cannot get lock status, assume it will disconnect shortly.

Samsung is up to some shenanigans then. In order to force a real uninstall you would have to root the phone, and you don't want to go there.

You can also try a disabler app, there are a number of them for Samsung phones and they're designed to remove Samsung bloat that can be hard to truly uninstall without root. If you go that route I'd be careful about going hog wild when they show what (they say) can be uninstalled.

I had similar problems with my 24X7 and my S23Ultra. Spent 6 months, 3 service visits, and 4.5 hours of genius' time to get it to work for two weeks last December. Then back to nothing. One day at the Verizon store talking about the situation that BMW and Samsung had done all they could do, I mentioned my wife had the same model phone and the Verizon SA asked if I had tried using my wife's phone as the primary user. Back at home, deleted all my connections in myBMW, made her the primary user, took her phone and 2 keys into the car, and had digital key setup in less than 2 minutes. Then her account shared the key with me. I think it worked for my phone as advertised for a couple of times, but then back to having to hold my phone to door handle and place in tray. So, back to Samsung and they sent me to have it checked under my phone insurance. The UWB function was shot, the motherboard needed to be replaced, but no parts were available. Samsung sent me a new phone. My wife's account shared her digital key again, and the replacement phone works like a charm.

TL;DR - Maybe it's the phone's UWB that's the problem.

p.s. Digital keys for both 22X5 and 24X7 are in Samsung Wallet.
p.s.s. Just for grins, the passive entry button is slid to the on position in the Security section when you open Manage Digital Key on myBMW.

Mine is getting odder, + works for a period and then disconnects, enter car and when closed works again for a period of time. The fact it works as it should means the UWB is operating.
