Wheel Height

Just got my new x5 (xline) 2 days ago. Love it. It seems to sit a bit high, about 4 inches between the top of the tire and the outside wheel lip (not the inner fender which is at least another 4+ inches above that). I remember reading where blocks may have been inserted for transport and not removed. The vehicle rides a bit firm but not horrible by any means. It has 19 inch wheels since I prefer a softer ride and rides a bit harsher than the tester did on 20s (but has Michelins and my SA suggested they ride a bit firm, which will likely be resolved with go flats). BUT this vehicle has less than 100 miles and literally was built last week so it may need some time to loosen up and have the shocks adjust to the crappy SE PA roads. Is this normal or worth a drive back to the dealer (any excuse to drive it) to have them see.

Thanks.

Why don't you post some pictures of the wheel...

Check your tire pressure. Mine were overinflated at delivery.

Thank you all for the responses. Tire pressures, per TPM are good. I ensured that when I picked it up on Tuesday and they were good yesterday. I have attached a picture from my iphone but the full side view does not seem to download (taken by my son and sent to me and I am not good with technology). See what you think.

Tried to save side view as a pdf. Not a great effort but if you rotate you can see it correctly. Maybe I am just not used to SUVs.

It does seem too high...I don't have one yet. I'm judging it based on other pictures I have seen on the forum. It could be suspension related. For example...on the X5 45e...you can see a big gap at the highest suspension level.

BTW...it looks great...what's the exterior color? Is this the MGM?

It looks about normal to me. I have the stock 19" wheels. WHat you're seeing is one reason why some prefer the larger wheels...it helps to fill in that black hole. To me, it isn't an issue.

The telling thing would be to measure from the ground to the top of a fender well then compare it to another G05 model. When unloaded and at the 'normal' height, they all should be about the same height there, regardless of wheel or tire installed, assuming it's an OEM option. An M might sit a little lower, and with their standard larger wheels, it might 'fill' the opening better.

Looks normal to me also. Do a search for X5's on cars.com and you will see they look the same way.

the overall circumference of the 19" and 22" inch tires are almost the same. 22" are a bit staggered in size front to back...and the 19's basically split the difference in the two. The main difference is in a person's perception of the 'black space" of the tire and wheel well.

I'll also add that when equipped with the 22's one almost certainly will have the M-sport package with i believe comes with a slightly different suspension than the base x-line variety

Maybe the pictures I have seen on the forum were the 45e at its lowest suspension level which makes the gap look smaller. Here is an example:

That vehicle is an M, which (I think) has a slightly lowered normal height and larger wheels than the 19" ones...perception is easily confused with differently sized wheels and a slight change in angle of the camera can make a big difference too.

Correct, there is only a .5" difference in circumference between the 19" and 22" wheels/tires.

The xLine and MSport uses the same suspension hardware, the only difference between the two is software tuning.

When we lower the 45e to the load level...the gap we're talking about becomes smaller...I think.

Yes it will but you can't drive with it at that level.

I know...I was just referring to pictures of the X5 45e that show a small gap. I'm thinking those pictures were taken when the car was at the load level...
