Booked my 45e in today at the dealer, they said it needs a replacement charging cable and a “battery cell test”. Didn’t advise me to drive or charge any differently in the meantime

30 minutes later I get an in-car BMW message telling me not to charge the high voltage battery, set battery hold to 30%, don’t use sport mode etc etc

Coincidence?
I've heard BMW is sending messages to the cars about this problem, so no coincidence.

Strange with all the news on the previous fire that you find absolutely nothing on the topic on internet. Especially if there are pictures circulating... did you get some info confirming it really happened?

An other one. 330e charging at the dealer: https://insideevs.com/news/431734/vi...-fire-czechia/

Strange that the Liege one doesn't show on internet. It would be interesting to know if both last 45e cases slipped through the recall and were delivered or if they were not part of the call back and delivered earlier indicating a general problem.

Apparently Ford had a similar issue with its hybrids.

Yes I received the pictures myself from someone else. The badge is not clearly visible but you can see a cable on one of them. I don't feel comfortable posting them on the net to be honest.

Why not. It's not like posting pictures of our BV's like Eveline did?

Your choice anyway. No problem.

I wonder if Ford uses the same battery supplier as BMW. Hyundai has also just issued a Kona EV recall for their LG supplied batteries...

"Neither Hyundai nor LG Chem, the maker of the battery cells, has concluded what is causing the fires." Great..

I am with you on diesel for every day car, and long ownership, I use 520d with performance pack installed when delivered new in 2011, never one single issue, we had the X5 F15 Hybris for the last 3 years, I drive the X5 weekends perfect with 3 kids in the back, I must admit the power and torque are simply amazing and way ahead of diesel engines, and the new one now delivered with 3 litre petrol engine, my 520d will feels even more slow, hence I am thinking of switching to a 3 litre diesel Macan, amazing to drive for an SUV, it will of course have to be second hand one since Porsche quite diesels, but I may end up opting for 330i or diesel, shame they now come as a 4 pot engine not straight 6, the 340 is not on sale in Ireland, I guess down to the stupid tax system, I do like the look of the 3 more than the current 5.

I have 2 x5's (f15 and g05) both diesel. Both of which I plan to keep long term. The exhaust components are a headache but longterm cheaper and more reliable IMO if indeed you plan to keep the car.
Like the egr cooler fiasco bmw has form in rushing out models which have 3rd party supply flaws and hence recalls. Lets face it the hybrid and mild hybrid exist to lower emissions and this financially benefits the company and customers but would I own either out of warranty? Probably not. Would I lease them while under warranty absolutely yes.
The G05 is my 7th bmw and I wish you and the firm well.

G05 30d diesel is very peppy i swapped a 335d which did 0-60 under 5 seconds for the G05 X5 and needless to say that I'm happy. I'm not affected by tax constraints and don't know economy and figures that well. My F15 30d is 7 years old 70k miles and has been utterly reliable.
My G05 is a 7 seater so 45e wasn't even under consideration as it doesn't offer this functionality despite being more expensive besides I do 50 miles/day.
I understand your statement about the 520d as I had a 320d in the past perfectly sufficient but 3 litre engines are in a league of their own. Im sure the 45e will be an improvement over the F1540e which was poor compared to the F1530d variant.

Any update from anyone? Stop code is removed now - just recall which means they have identified a fix/ordered parts?

Join the club. At first I had to leave mine at the dealer (after already driving it and charging it for about 3 weeks): they gave me another full spec X5, but diesel: not as fun to drive, but still ok. After a couple of days, they told me I coupe pick it up and use it normally, until they would service it to solve the problem forever. That lasted about 3 days, after which I was notified that I can keep driving the car, under the circumstances you describe. It goes without saying that the cost of driving has skyrocketed, as the car is really heavy and driving pure petrol, day in day out, is absolutely crazy. I guess it was a good way for them to move the cost of giving me a replacement, on me instead.
Now for a car worth over € 110K, this is not really the service I expect. I’ve been a loyal BMW customer for the last 25 years - from 3 series to a few 5s, 7, 6 gran Coupé and another X5d, but the way they are handling this issue makes me want to step away from BMW

What kind of service / remuneration would you like to see from BMW? (keeping in mind that "I just want my car to function as promised" is not an option for the time being)

Celebrating 10 months of waiting today...

Keeping the above in mind, I would expect the following on my side:
  • A replacement car of the same standing (at least) - I got a confirmation of a car that will allow me to transport my 3 kids. Don't know which one yet - will know on Thursday.
  • Clear delivery deadlines (at least a week number in 2020). Not what I have now: somewhere between Nov 1st and Dec 31st...
  • At least one of the following compensation as a sign of respect for what they call their 'exclusive' customers : a significant discount on the first service (if not for free), a significant discount on a set of winter tires of good quality (ex: Pirelli Scorpion Winter), a PPF installation or ceramic coating.

Am I expecting too much?

Had a call with my sales rep today. Basically he told me that there was not much to share. They expect that the repairs will start in Zeebrugge in the first or second week of November. So being realistic, no new car before end of November at earliest.
