Question Nationwide MY22 BMW X5 45e Discount

Hello All,

I am in the market to order 22 BMW X5 45e however, every single NJ and NY dealer I've reached out to isn't offering any discount on the MSRP. Some are even charging markups on the MSRP!

I am going to do Performance Center Delivery so the location isn't really a concern for me. I do have a PenFed rebate + BMW loyalty rebate but looking to maximize invoice price discount from any dealer around the country that is offering one.

Does anyone know of any dealer offering a discount on the custom build?

There's a multi page thread about MSRP discounts. Unfortunately the few dealers willing to discount are quickly running out of allocations.

Also note that you can't stack the Penfed rebate with the BMW Loyalty rebate.

You're gonna fly down and drive back or ship it?

I am in the same boat as clutchmaster. I had a deposit under the false statement of having an allocation and waited till Friday and the dealer did not get an allocation for me. So canceled the waitlist and starting over again.

PDC is a close drivable distance to me but I will get a significant tax benefit from a trade-in, given I won't get the car before the end of the year, I am going to passively look for the next opportunity.

That's not exactly true.

The Military rebate for say an X6 is $3,200 and you must bring cash/your own financing.

If instead you choose BMW FS, then you can get the BMW Loyalty Credit of $750 and the Military rebate drops to $500.

That's true but I'm not sure why you'd choose to do that if you qualify for the Penfed rebate, which is actually $3250.

No one would but I keep seeing it incorrectly explained and people thinking they can stack military and loyalty and not understanding that you can but the military drops, significantly.

Also people don't seem to understand that loyalty is not BMW loyalty but BMW FS loyalty.

In early Sept., I let my dealer Order Bank me for a 45e, for which they did not have an allocation. They said that they were pretty used to BMW picking up a stray order or two for them, since they're a larger dealer. I was worried, but around Sep. 30, BMW accepted the order and I was assigned Week 44.

Also, is there a way you could logistically trade your car in ahead of time and still do PCD, while driving something else? Even a one-way rental is probably outweighed substantially by the trade-in tax credit.

I wish I were in that boat. Alas, my state is one of the ones that doesn't give you a tax credit on a trade. And you pay tax on the full purchase price for a lease (which makes subscription-lease programs like Care By Volvo particularly unattractive)...AND if you buy out your lease, you get to pay tax again!

It isn't mentioned often because not many people would choose a $1500 rebate over a $3250 rebate.

Thanks for the tip. I will try that early trade-in option when I get closer to getting the car.

Thank you, If I have a trade-in then this makes sense but I don't have trade-in to offer. I am not in a rush to get the car on my driveway ASAP but I do want to close on the invoice by EOY to claim them EV rebate credit!

I have 2 dealers in the tri-state willing to discount $1000 with base MF and finance rates but the slots fill up fast considering most want MSRP if not more.

Pretty crazy times

I'm in the same boat. I need to "take delivery" of mine before Dec 31, both for the EV tax credit and for the Section 179 deduction. I told them upfront that as long as it got assigned a VIN on or before Dec 31, I could complete the paperwork at that time and that would be the official in-service/purchase date, as far as the official records are concerned.

But that was when I was on the waitlist. Fortunately, mine'll be delivered in early November, from the looks of it.

Lucky! What region did you order in and when?

I am in the Central US. I originally ordered an xDrive40i in late August, and the dealer actually had an allocation for it and everything. It was due for October.

Then, when I saw the advantages of the 45e, I switched to that in early September and was put in the Order Bank, since my dealer did not have a 45e allocation. However, they were "banking" on BMW picking up their order, despite not having an allocation, since they're a larger dealer. And that's what happened at the end of September.

Is the tax credit Federal or State?
And does the 179 expire at the end of the year? Or you just want it for this year's taxes?

I ordered a 2022 X5 45e and did a "pre-Trade-in" about 6 weeks ahead of the expected delivery date. With used-car prices so high, the dealer couldn't guarantee what the trade-in value would be if I waited until the X5 delivery. In other words, they wanted to resell my trade quickly and make some $s which I was fine with.

The only downside is that you have to get a rental since the dealer's don't have enough loaners to give out for this type of transaction. Since I was traveling for a month, it wasn't a big deal. But an early trade can definitely be done. Good luck!

That can't be right, can it? That would mean you're being taxed twice for essentially the same transaction.

I haven't done a lease so I can't say for sure, but I imagine if you pay tax on the full purchase price upfront, you would not owe tax when you buy out the lease.

In my state on a lease I pay a use tax for each lease payment.
Then when/if I buy out the lease, I pay a tax based on the remaining residual value of the vehicle, not the original purchase price.

Yeah, that makes sense to me. The way kplatinum777 describes it, though, sounds like being taxed twice on the same thing ie tax upfront on the purchase price and then tax on the residual
