Dude, legit calm nice stopalwaysfreakingthefuckout question: Do you have any documented proof that BMW pays the rebate?

Either "yes, here it is", or "no I'm speculating." No need freak out.

It's all going to be ok.

For reasons unknown, the PenFed rebate spawns passions ...

With that, for those new to the thread, it's important to point out the jankiness in documentation of the PenFed rebate:

▪️ It may be referred to as "the military rebate" in PenFed/BMW documentation & in posts here
As of now, the rebate is open to anyone who's been a PenFed member for > 60 days

▪️ The PenFed documentation refers to 2021 vehicles
As of now, many (all?) dealers are able to apply the rebate to 2022 vehicles and have it process

▪️ The PenFed documentation specifies the rebate is for all authorized BMW dealers
As of now, some members are reporting dealers who refuse to process the rebate; either outright and/or because the PenFed docs say 2021. Check with your specific salesperson, even if another at the same dealer has told you it's all good.

▪️ Some members report sales staff unfamiliar with the rebate stacking
That is, the sales staff mis-categorize the rebate (the g vs j issue). Search the thread for more info on that if it happens to you.

▪️ The PenFed rebate is different depending on financing and vehicle, including config
For example, according to the PenFed documentation, the X5M rebate for non-BMWFS financing is $3250 UNLESS it's config'd with the Comp package.

Net-Net
There's a lot of BMW/PenFed documentation about the PenFed rebate that's accurate; however some isn't, and this thread serves as a great way to document ongoing member experiences, including the ins & outs of getting the rebates. That said, as mentioned, some dealers (and/or sales staff) will refuse to process the rebate, so it's best to think of it as a case-by-case basis.

Military incentive, https://www.bmwusa.com/special-offer...incentive.html replaces (not sure if that's the right word) USAA and PennFed.

This page removes any confusion. ID.me verifies your military status or not, shows you the rebates for each model and sends the dealer of your choice the information.

For the X6, If you qualify and bring your own financing you can get up to $3,250 depending on model.

If you use BMW FS, you are eligible for a $750 BMW FS Loyalty Owner discount + the rebate (or whatever it is called) drops from $3,250 to $500. So you're losing $2,000.

Only other option right now that you can stack on top of the above is to attend a BMW Ultimate Driving Experience for $1,000 coupon. If your dealer is giving you a discount they may only honor $500 off b/c 1/2 of the $1,000 is from BMW and 1/2 from the dealer. The event must be in the dealer's region. So you cannot sign up for an event in CA and use the code for a purchase in NY.

Penfed Incentive looks like has been updated now to include 2022 on the form.

Iv'e read thru all 8 pages of this thread and *think* I understand, but can someone confirm these steps:

1. Go to Penfed/TrueCar to get the certificate and confirm that my local dealer participates in the program.
2. Go to dealer and negotiate my best deal (without mention of the PenFed certificate yet). For this example, the dealer agrees to 6% off MSRP on a cash sale.
3. I then bring up the PenFed certificate and the rebate (say it's $3200) gets stacked on top of the 6% discount. Edit: The big question here is whether the dealer discount is now void/affected by the PenFed rebate, or does the dealer not care about the PenFed rebate, because it's not their money?
4. If I bring PenFed financing, all above stays unchanged.
5. If I opt for BMWFS, I get a BMW loyalty discount but lose part of the PenFed rebate.

How did I do in my reading comprehension?

Negotiated % off MSRP & PenFed are separate, so you get both.

You did well, just two comments:

1. The website will not confirm whether your dealer participates in the program. They all have to participate even though we have seen a dealer or two not understand the program.

4. You can bring PenFed or any other non-BMWFS financing

PenFed discount of $3,250 for X5/X6 in this example is the Military Discount, which is really bring your own financing/cash. You don't need to bother with PenFed to get the $3,250.

If you do BMWFS Military drops to $500 but you get $750 BMW loyalty. In effect losing $2,000.

Best you can do today is Military + Dealer Discount + 1/2 UDE Coupon.

This is a good pointer. I was able to get this done in minutes. Note, if you are on a Mac, use Chrome. Safari will not let you pick a dealer as it blanks the zip code and you cannot submit the form.

Just sent the info to my dealer for a 45e that is on order.

** Also this seems to have no expiration. Thus folks may not be up against the Jan 3rd 2022 deadline.

I picked up my 45e about 2 weeks in the bay area. I was successfully able to use the PenFed rebate. The sales person had never heard of the Penfed rebate before but he checked with the financial manager to make sure it can be applied.

I also went with Penfed financing. I applied online at PenFed for draft check that was good up to $50,000 and check was sent to me in about 3-4 days. I signed up for PenFed 1.99% for 60 months but support told me I can call after I buy the car to get the TrueCar rate which at the time was 0.99% for 60 months (Sept) but in month of October it was changed to 1.49% for 60 months/0.99% for 36 months. I sent out a email out to the Penfed ones loan showed up on my account to get the TrueCar and they were successfully able to give me 0.99% for 36 months.

A lot of people are assuming that you have to bring your own financing when you use the Penfed rebate. Not the case, the dealer can still handle all the finance work, they just can't use BMWFS. And for well qualified buyers, they'll probably get you a better rate.

To clarify, my father is a Millitary vet…would this classify me to receive the millitary discount and therefor replace the penfed discount?

I opened a penfed account about 30 days ago so either way I should soon have access to the rebate.

There actually is no such thing as the PenFed discount, it is the BMW Domestic Military discount. PenFed is one of the outlets for obtaining the certificate with the others being the BMW website as well as TrueCar. One of the ways to qualify for the discount is to be a USAA or PenFed member for at least 60 days. Another would be to be an immediate family member of a military veteran. If you want to try that route, go to TrueCar.com and use the ID.me to qualify for that certificate.

Thanks!

It’s been a heck of a process finding an m50i in the spec that I like. I’ll look into this, as I don’t think there are any other incentives that I qualify for and my dealer is only offering me the car at sticker.

Can you expand on that comment? I'm ordering a car and plan to use the UDE certificate.

I guess some could be different but usually UDE's/sales events/etc. are only applicable to current inventory on dealer lots according to the wording on the certificate. We have seen where some dealers have taken the certificate on custom orders but they may just be giving the discount rather than processing it through BMW.

Since 2017, we've leased 3 custom-ordered BMWs (340xi; X3; and X5) from my local dealer and UDE was applied on each without question. Not sure how they make it work, but never an issue for me. In all cases, I provided them with the details of the UDE certificate. For the 340xi and X3 (ordered simultaneously), the dealer proactively informed me about the event and encouraged our participation (I leased the 3er and the fiancé the X3). Hopefully, BMWFS doesn't crack down on this going forward!

A promotional event code/OL Code is easy to get and easy to use. But indeed, the fine print generally states for use only on "In Dealer Stock". (I have a code myself but it just expired).
Perhaps, some dealers honor it one way or another through a loophole of the custom build being "in stock" when you pick up the car? The other area of a buyers concern is what promotions/codes can be stacked and what can not; there's a matrix for it. An OL Code can be stacked with Loyalty, but not with PenFed/Military for example (based on how I read it).

Previous discussion and matrix that Turtleboy posted here:
https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...+matrix&page=2
