Powder coat x5 20in rims

Did anyone here powder coat their x5 20in rims black? I love the look of the 22in black rims but didn't want to deal with the headache of changing to a different set in the nyc winter

Was curious to see pics also bmw of Manhattan wants to charge me $1244 for 4 rims. Is that a good price?

What wheels are they selling you? The stock OEM 20"s I think would be more costly than that.. They are around 4k with tires on the bmw website. I have the 22s and live in the east coast.. just going to garage the x5 for most the winter especially when below 32 and snowing.

Sorry for the confusion. 1244 would be for powder coating the 20in rims black. I'm not sure if that's a good price or what it's suppose to cost.

That's going to be pretty steep for a winter set. You're better off searching for a used set of wheels locally imo.

I don't need a winter set, I got the all season 740m 20in rims. I just want to know if $1244 is a good price to powder coat them black.

I just had my 20 inch G05 wheels powder coated gloss black and was $625. That included a ceramic coat as well. I had my e46 M3 18 inch wheels coated by another shop in anthracite a few months ago and the cost was $600.

$1200 is insanely expensive. I live in the Midwest for reference.

Agreed. I think it would cost about 640-800 total here in Ohio.

First post, new to forum. I got mine done at Moe Modz in Hackensack NJ right outside of NYC for $550 for my 22 X5. Good guy, he did my last car as well. General consensus here is $150-$225 per wheel when I called around to different shops. Even our dealers here in North Jersey charge $800 for all 4.

I see thanks for the tip, when you powder coat them do you leave them there or you can wait while it's done?

you have to leave the car for a day or two. I ubered but you can pay the $800 at the dealer and get a service loaner if you need to get around.

Welcome!

Would you be able to post a picture by any chance? I'm potentially interested in doing it, but don't want to do it without seeing what it actually looks like.

Just got my 740M done in gloss black. It was $525 and that's in the DC area, $1200 is insane.

Obviously you have tire work involved as they have to be dismounted. If there is little masking then less labor for that. I would think the inner edges have to be kept clear to seal well and no coating on the inside so that has to be completely masked. For a competitive quote I would contact Wheel Techniques It won't make sense to ship your wheels to them but at least you'll get a price from a high cost market.

If you search the wheels section for "black 740M" you will see tons of examples of folks who have done it. I'm doing it myself next week.
