My BMW App Vehicle Finder
Does the Vehicle Finder in the app continue to update location if the vehicle hasn't been started in a while and isn't close to my phone?
Or more specifically, if my X5 is being transported across the country, can I use the function to track it along the way? Thanks! |

I thought proximity matters?

I checked in on my car (did surround view) when it was miles away.
come to think of it...i believe the app does refresh the car's location upon opening. At least that's how i recall on older iterations when i would look for my F30 3 series' location while it was parked in long-term parking at LAX and i was in hawaii |

You can fold and unfold your side mirrors using your BMW phone app? Then that's a sweet option.

I haven't seen a discrete option to fold and unfold mirrors. It was more like an alert informing me that the mirrors will unfold if I choose to proceed with Remote 3D View.

No the phone doesn't connect directly with the car so proximity isn't relevant. The car communicates with BMW's servers via the internet, and the app feeds that info back to your phone.
I used the app to find my 5 series when it was stolen and recover it. |

Yes, phone proximity is not relevant. I was checking up on my car while in Japan for 2 weeks because I am crazy like that

On my 2022 X5...yes. It's not a video...the app will unfold the mirrors and take a 360* picture of its surroundings. you can also look at each "fisheye" picture individually as well

Yes, the mirrors get unfolded, the car takes fish-eye pictures from all 4 cameras, folds the mirrors back, and sends the images to the app; the app puts together a 3D surround view of your car and also allows you to see all 4 images individually. You can see what's happening if you stand next to your car while sending a remote 3D view request.

I had the same issues when my car was getting wrapped and CC'ed. I would spy on the workers, but after two weeks it stopped communicating with my App. They left the doors open so some of the photos I took looked strange. Here are some of the pics

Get to know that proximity doesn't affect checking up on vehicle location. When I owned a 2014 M6, it would not do vehicle location unless you were within a certain proximity.
